About the Item

Arne Vodder for Bovirke, chaise longue, leather, beech, Denmark, 1950s. Chaise longue designed by Arne Vodder for Bovirke in the 1950s. This chaise longue has an open frame in blond wood and a seating created of braided leather straps. The flowing shape of the frame, together with the pure combination of leather and wood creates a natural character. The frame rests on tapered legs and due to the openness, a design that is all about shape and angles is created. The highly patinated leather truly stands out and adds unique value to this beautiful chaise longue. Arne Vodder (1926-2009) should be named among the most influential Scandinavian midcentury designers, although he is not as well-known as for instance Hans Wegner or Arne Jacobson. Once a student of famous furniture designer Finn Juhl at Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, who later became his friend and business partner. Vodder started out as an architect who designed low-cost housing, later on, he began designing furniture. Although his designs are anything but low-quality, his aim for functional design that could be used by all remained important. He designed amongst others for Fritz Hansen & Sibast. Kindly note that this item is in used condition. The leather is patinated and shows signs of wear and use suitable for a piece of this age, such as tears and cracks. For active use, we advise reupholstery/restoration. This can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece contains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
