Modular Sofa by Peter Ghyczy for Herman Miller, Germany, 1970s

About the Item

Peter Ghyczy's exceptional 2-seater sofa from the 1970s is an incredibly rare and truly unique piece. Also referred to as the "Fehlbaum sofa". Finding this particular sofa is a rarity due to its complex production method back in the 70s, which prevented mass production. As a result, only a handful of these sofas still exist today, making them highly sought-after collector's items. Peter Ghyczy, a renowned designer of space-age furniture, created this sofa, and he's also credited with developing polyurethane-based products. The sofa has been marked by Herman Miller, the producer of this sofa. The sofa's cushions have been reupholstered in a high-quality black bouclé fabric by Keymer, and was done by a professional craftsman, to last another lifetime. The original cushions were also black, so we chose to stay true to the original design. The black and white contrast is iconic for space-age designs. Since the sofa is a 2-seater, it suits many kinds of projects, from residential, to retail up to a gallery. It suits many kinds of interior styles, going from vintage, mid-century, modern, contemporary, unique, design, artsy, funky, 70s, 60s, and curated. Check out Daddy Deco storefront for more mid-century collectible design pieces.

  • Blue Fiberglass Bench by Walter Papst for Wilkhahn, Germany, 1960s
    By Walter Papst
    Located in Antwerp, BE
Stunning blue fiberglass bench designed by Walter Papst for Wilkhahn, Germany, 1960s. Walter Papst was one of the first European designers to use fiberglass to fabricate furniture. The design of the bench is naive, almost simplistic since it is made out of 1 piece of molded fiberglass. But nonetheless, it is a very sophisticated item because it was made with beautiful slanted angles, which gives it a very sculptural and architectural look. The stunning bright blue color makes it pure eye candy. The blue color is the original color and could be described as 'modernist blue' or 'le corbusier blue...

  • Sculptural Post-Modern Steel Sofa, France 1980s
    Located in Antwerp, BE
Very unique and unusual sofa. Inspired by the Maria Pergay, Michel Boyer era. Sourced in the south of France. Postmodernism. The bench is made of multiple materials, creating a beautiful composition. The base of the sofa is made of steel and has a beautifully patinated leather seat. The back of the sofa is made of resin. Due to the green strokes, it is multi-dimensional. Even if it's a functional sofa, it merely looks like a piece of art. It can both be used as a stand-alone sofa or bench and could be the perfect addition to any residential project, but would also look great in any gallery or high-end retail shop. The minimalist design of this French sofa is perfect for any clientele that wants to create a unique kind of atmosphere. It has a very industrial, apocalyptic, and postmodern feel to it. It is for sure an eye-catcher! Please note that it is a heavy object. Check out Daddy Deco...
