About the Item

A Scandinavian Modern ‘Paper Knife’ chair designed by Kai Kristiansen for Magnus Olesen in the 1960s. The rich, chocolate brown teak frame features elegant rounded arms, an angled backrest, and tapered legs. This chair has been newly reupholstered in a gorgeous soft, blue-grey suede fabric. Stamped with maker’s marks on underside. Denmark, 1960s. Kai Kristiansen began his career in 1948 as a cabinetmaker for Kaare Klint. With a passion for math and engineering, Kristiansen was renowed for his excellent craftsmanship and innovative, function-forward philosophy. He designed everything from chairs and desks to sideboards and cabinets, frequently unitizing rosewood and teak. Kristiansen worked with leading Danish furniture manufacturers throughout his career, some of which include Magnus Olesen, Fritz Hansen, and Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik.
