'PK-11' Armchairs by Poul Kjærholm for EKC, Set of Six, Denmark c. 1957, Signed

About the Item

We often acquire incredible collectors pieces and once in a blue moon we can safely say we have a 'best in class' piece. This fine collector's set of six (6) original 'PK-11' armchairs by Poul Kjærholm for E. Kold Christensen are the best we've seen on this design, and we will explain why below. First, all six of these PK11's are signed with the EKC Denmark stamp (see photos), all strikes were clean and legible and consistent. Given Fritz Hansen currently produces this design, having the EKC stamp is vital for collectors and art investors when selecting PK-11's to acquire and this set checks this box perfectly. Secondly, the incredible vintage condition of the stainless steel frames and patinated leather seats with waxed natural ash backs are simply phenomenal. They have the exact perfect recipe that you want to see. Very light and attractive patina to both the steel and leather, however with no damage or issues. And the naturally finished stack laminated ash backs are perfect - no dings, dents, nicks, splinters or scratches, we gently waxed and conditioned them so they are smooth and beautiful - in our opinion, these are perfect examples. And lastly, finding a set of six of these is not an easy task. They are so rare to begin with, and sought-after by collectors and investors - so getting a matched complete set is very difficult, but when you see them all together, oh what a sight to behold. Originally designed in 1957 for Elvind Kold Christensen (E.K.C.), this matched set of six PK-11 examples are early year productions, all in excellent vintage condition, and are fine collectors examples for connoisseurs and fine art investors ready to be used (and loved) immediately. Described by Michael Sheridan, the PK-11 takes Kjaerholm's vision of "reduction of structure to its limit, using a trio of vertical bars and a single cross bar to support a (floating) seat cushion that is held free of any frame. The vertical bars are joined and stabilized by a curving backrest that is shaped from a slab of laminated wood, in layers that match the width of the steel bars." There is no wonder the PK11 armchair is one of Scandinavian Modern's most celebrated designs, which was also decades ahead of its time. And also no wonder why collectors and design investors alike covet this chair. These Poul Kjaerholm for EKC PK11 chairs would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using these Poul Kjearholm as side chairs, dining, cafe or breakfast table chairs, bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, office or desk guest chairs, lobby lounge chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting. DOCUMENTATION: 'Poul Kjaerholm, Furniture Architect' by Michael Sheridan, unpaginated MEASUREMENTS: H 25.5" x W 25" x D 18.25" Seat Height: 16" (at front / highest point) Seat Depth: 16.5" CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition with light patina - which is what collectors wish to see on these early production (original) examples. They don't want it to be too new or too oxidized or rusted. Just a light patina is what collectors say is perfect - and that is what these examples have. No issues to the wood arms, we polished and waxed them and they are gorgeous and smooth with no dents, dings, scratches or nicks. Leather has beautiful patina but no dryness, cracks, tears or tips, punctures or holes. The leather is soft and in great shape, and for those who love patina on their leather, the leather seats on these Pk11's are simply exquisite. These are ideal collectors examples and ready for immediate use in a collectors home or office.

Mario Bellini for Cassina 'Cab 414' Leather Lounge Chair, Signed, circa 1980s
By Cassina, Mario Bellini
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A beautiful black leather Mario Bellini Cab lounge chair, Model #414, signed Cassina, designed in the 1970s. These fine examples of the cab line by Mario Bellini for Cassina are classic staples for luxury interior designers and collectors alike, these lounge variations of the design are larger and deeper than the similar dining armchair, and have the addition of the seat cushion. Signed underneath with Cassina embossing to the leather. Mario Bellini described the 1970s bestselling design for the Cab collection as “This was a new kind of chair, constructed totally out of leather, much cloned since then.” and is now a signature piece in Cassina’s Contemporanei collection. Cab was the first-ever chair to feature a free-standing leather structure, inspired by how our skin fits over our skeleton. The upholstery consists of sixteen pieces of saddle leather. They then undergo fourteen discrete procedures, again by hand. The pieces are sewn together only when their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel skeleton and held in place by means of a zipper fastening as in a bespoke tailored...
