About the Item

Florence Knoll's influence on Mid-Century design is immeasurable. As a visionary at Knoll, she curated groundbreaking furniture collections and pioneered modern commercial interiors for clients like IBM, CBS, and Look Magazine. When existing furniture didn't meet her needs, she simply designed it—creating some of the most iconic pieces of our time. Her lounge chairs, tables, and sofas, like the one shown here, remain timeless symbols of Mid-Century design, cherished in both homes and offices. Our team sought to preserve this early Florence Knoll design while refining its details to achieve a timeless result. We began by carefully inspecting the frame, reinforcing its structure, and rebuilding all interior foam and fill with new material. This Knoll design features subtle shifts in angles and curves, which we meticulously maintained to honor her original intent. To complement its form, we upholstered the sofa in sustainably produced recycled British Wool in the color Forest, a rich and durable material from our collection of imported fabrics. The six rarely seen tapered flat-edge walnut legs were fully refinished, while Italian leather piping handsomely ties the upholstery to the wood. The six cushions were crafted with clean knife-edge seams and filled with premium down-wrapped foam for an effortless, comfortable feel. Our goal for this restoration was to respect the integrity of Florence Knoll’s vision while ensuring at least another lifetime of enjoyment. The result is a beautifully preserved example of timeless design, crafted with meticulous care and the finest materials.
