About the Item

This sculptural lounge sofa, designed by the renowned Vladimir Kagan and produced by Directional in the United States in 1999, stands as an iconic piece of modern furniture design. Known affectionately as the "Cloud Sofa" due to its whimsical, cloud-like fabric and boomerang shape, this sofa transcends conventional furniture, embodying both art and functionality. Its organic form gives it the appearance of a sculptural masterpiece, while still serving as a practical and comfortable seating option. The sofa retains its original upholstery, a luxurious off-white beige sand-colored fabric that is as soft as teddy velvet, enhancing its stunning aesthetic appeal. Despite being over two decades old, the upholstery is in good condition, rated at 90% with only minor wear and no significant damage. For those who desire, the cover can be removed and dry-cleaned, which we already did, ensuring the sofa maintains its pristine appearance. Adding to its sophisticated design, the sofa features plywood feet covered in chrome-plated metal, lending a touch of elegance and class. The authenticity of this piece is confirmed by the original metal Kagan New York Collection tag affixed to the back. This particular model is the largest size produced by Kagan, offering exceptional comfort and a plush, puffy feel. Its modern, serpentine shape makes it a perfect fit for any contemporary interior, where it will undoubtedly serve as a focal point and conversation starter. Whether viewed as a piece of art or a functional lounge, this Kagan sofa is a timeless addition to any modern design collection. Just like all our upholstered pieces, these can be newly upholstered to your liking. Consult with our experienced upholstery department for a reasonable quote on customizing the item of your choice. We exclusively utilize premium quality fabrics, foam, and materials for all our products. During the reupholstery process, preserving the originality is our top priority to ensure the piece retains its value and remains ready for years of use ahead.

Mario Bellini Quartet sofa Cassina Italy 1964
By Mario Bellini
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Extremely rare 932 'Quartet' sofa designed by architect Mario Bellini and manufactured by Cassina in Italy in 1964. Very early model made up of five separate pieces. It's quite challenging to come across one in this large and impressive size. What makes it even more special is its gorgeous cognac colour. This sofa's modular design means you can arrange its elements in various ways to suit different settings. It's still in good original condition, considering its age, with some expected wear and tear that adds character and enhances its beautiful appearance and patina. There are no holes or tears in it. In the 1960s Mario Bellini reinterpreted the concept of classic furniture stuffing with the 932 model, transforming the padding of the traditional armchair into an item of furniture: four independent cushions connected by a belt passed around the outside. Bellini took as his starting point Le Corbusier’s Grand...
