Zaha Hadid Moraine Sofa in Pont Hide

About the Item

Out of this world piece by iconic British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. The Moraine sofa was designed in 2000, and produced by Sawaya & Moroni of Italy. Organic curves wrapped in merlot pony ‘fantasy leather’, a specialty hide produced by Sawaya & Moroni. Interior metal frame supports the hide-wrapped foam construction. The precise curves of the sofa ripple through space with the monumental softness of a flowing river. A usable sculpture and an architectural marvel that you can sit on. This example has heavy patina as shown with some loss of hide hair and sun fading. Perfect for everyday use . Similar to your favourite pair of jeans. Just an exceptional example. Impossible to reproduce patina such as this.

Charles Eames Sofa Compact
By Charles Eames
Located in Toronto, Ontario
A very rare and rather exceptional sofa compact by Charles Eames for Herman Miller. This example is special for a few reasons. It is a very early model as evidenced by the centre metal bracket. It is also a folding example. Later pieces were fixed in place. This sofa also retains the original vintage Alexander Girard "giant stripe" textile. A very rare thing as most were reupholstered of originally upholstered in a basic vinyl or wool . This textile and construction dates the sofa to approx. 1959. This is most likely the best example of a vintage Sofa Compact available for sale. A true museum example. From Herham Miller website: Why “compact” for a sofa that’s six feet wide and seats three? The clean profile of the Eames sofa compact...

European Mid-Century Sofa in Black Cow Hide, Europe ca 1950s
Located in Utrecht, NL
This unique curved sofa is simple and striking. Despite the understated, elegant colours, this model is still an accent piece that stands out thanks to its materials and appearance. The structure relies on an interior frame covered by the upholstered fabric. In contrast to the constructivist models produced by the members of the Bauhaus, this aesthetic is more in favour of a relaxed and welcoming look. The design uses essentially geometric forms that exude warmth by the nature of the materials. The absence of arms and the ergonomic angle at which the seat and back meet creates an impression as if the sofa is opening up, enhancing both the visual and sitting comfort of the design. The crisp lines are ever so softly rounded on the edges adhering to the modernist design idioms, while the wooden lower structure and tapered legs showcase straighter lines. The black cow hide...

European Mid-Century Two Part Sofa in Black Cow Hide, Europe Ca 1950s
Located in Utrecht, NL
This unique curved sofa consists of two parts and whether the parts are standing next to each other or together, the design is simple and striking. The two separate part construction allows for significant versatility; the sofas can be placed close together as an accent piece, or in different parts of a space to tie the aesthetic together. Despite the understated, elegant colours, this model is still an accent piece that stands out thanks to its materials and appearance. The structure relies on an interior frame covered by the upholstered fabric.
