About the Item
This striking three-legged stool is the Model S31, designed by Pierre Chapo in 1974. It features a cross-legged base and a round seat, both crafted from solid elm wood. The stool can also function as a small side table.
We have multiple pieces in stock and available for immediate shipment.
Each stool is completely unique, so please note that the wood grain of the seat and legs will vary from piece to piece. Please contact us for photos of the exact stools currently available if you'd like to select a specific piece.
This new stool was made by Chapo Creation, now run by Pierre Chapo's grandson. Based in Southern France, this artisanal company produces the official reissues of Chapo's designs. All pieces are hand made, using the same materials and techniques as the earlier productions (types of elm wood as the earlier productions). Each piece is stamped.

Pierre Chapo
Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.
