About the Item

Gary Magakis’ blacked steel and bronze console epitomizes the sculptor’s distinct approach to creating bold metal and dense geometric forms that simultaneously exude an elegant, buoyant aesthetic of Modernism. Inspired by Russian Constructivism and the cantilevered rooms by Frank Lloyd Wright, Magakis channels architectural elements in design while tapering each of his forms uniquely. Though each of the console’s three solid bronze and three solid steel parts appear sharp at first glance, they are actually gracefully curvilinear, as the entire piece lacks any straight lines or edges. Magakis’ cantilevered end cabinets allow the taut six-paneled, five-door console to float; this levity, which further contrasts to the striated steel and bronze, renders the piece at ideal aesthetic equilibrium. Unique. Materials: Blackened steel and bronze. Dimension: 100’’ L x 32’’ H x 19’’ D.

Gary Magakis’ unique steel and textured, layered bronze console epitomizes the sculptor’s distinct approach to creating bold and dense geometric forms that simultaneously exude an elegant, buoyant aesthetic of Modernism. At once a functional case piece and work of art, the console is designed to float in the room and be experienced from every angle. Inspired by Constructivism and the cantilevered houses, Gary Magakis channels architectural elements in design while tapering each of his forms uniquely. Though each of the console’s sections appear sharp at first glance, they are actually gracefully curvilinear, as the entire piece lacks any straight lines or edges. Magakis’ cantilevered cabinets...
