About the Item

An absolutely breathtaking Art Deco demilune commode by the esteemed Donald Deskey for Widdicomb, Grand Rapids, circa 1935. Expertly crafted mahogany case construction veneered in exquisite bookmatched walnut. The top markings are so dramatic that it appears to be faux-painted - but no. Heavy oversize solid brass knobs mark the drawers. The walnut demonstrates movement and color so clear and crisp that it resembles reverse painted glass. It is an Organic Rorschach test. Emblematic of the zenith in design, craftsmanship and material selection from the American Machine Age. An unforgettable relic intended to anchor a cherished room. EXCELLENT RESTORED CONDITION. The chest has undergone meticulous complete professional restoration. The finish demonstrates exceptional depth, sheen and luster. All drawers are pristine and operate smoothly. Retains the Maker mark.
