Rare Arne Jacobsen 'Djob' Writing Desk, 1971

About the Item

Writing desk designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1971. Part of the 'DJOB' system for Denmark's National Bank. The desk has stacking drawers on both sides and is made of beech wood with an anodized aluminium frame and a green laminate top. In original condition with visible wear consistent with its age and use. 'DJOB' table also available and listed separately(LU922437989242). The Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1902. After completing his apprenticeship as a stonemason, Arne Jacobsen studied architecture at the Kongelige Danske Art Academy in Copenhagen until 1927. He then worked in the office of the architect Paul Holsoe. In 1929 Arne Jacobsen opened his own office in Hellerup. As early as 1925, Arne Jacobsen took part in the important "Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes" in Paris with a chair design and received a silver medal for it. Arne Jacobsen's best-known works to date are chair designs. Arne Jacobsen designed the chair “Ant” (model no. 3100) for the Fritz Hansen company in 1951/52. In 1958, Arne Jacobsen designed the two armchairs "Egg" and "Swan", which were originally created for the interior of the Royal SAS Hotel in Copenhagen and are still one of the design classics of the 20th century. As an architect, Arne Jacobsen was one of the first to bring modernism to Denmark.
