About the Item

This sculptural ensemble by Jacques Jarrige brings together a transformative dining table–console and a suspended light in a poetic interplay of architecture, movement, and line. Part of the Meanders body of work, the two components echo each other’s language: gestural curves, carved voids, and an intuitive approach to space and light. The table is designed to shift between two functions—when extended, it serves as a dining table; when collapsed or closed, it becomes a slim console. Crafted from hand-cut plywood, its silhouette is defined by Jarrige’s signature approach to drawing in space: a line that meanders with purpose, wrapping around itself to form a solid yet open structure. The legs and support elements curve inward and outward in a rhythmic flow, transforming a functional object into a sculptural centerpiece. Hovering above, the suspended light complements the table below. Also made from cut and curved plywood, it acts like a floating gesture—echoing the movement of the table’s lines while casting soft, shifting light. The two pieces are conceived in dialogue, each enhancing the presence and meaning of the other. As a pair, they create a sculptural environment that unites form, function, and atmosphere. Though deeply architectural in presence, both the table and the light retain the tactile, handmade quality that defines Jarrige’s work. There is no reliance on digital modeling; instead, each curve is carved by hand, each opening decided through touch and intuition. The result is a deeply human aesthetic—one that emphasizes flow over symmetry and gesture over geometry. The ensemble is fully customizable in size and finish and can be commissioned as a complete sculptural unit or purchased as individual elements. The version pictured is a working prototype, offering a glimpse into the evolving possibilities of the Meanders series—a collection that continues to blur the line between sculpture and utility, stillness and movement.
