About the Item
Graphically strong and very appealing, this stylized depiction of a football field and two players is an original linoleum panel produced by the Armstrong Company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, designed for a playroom or recreation room. The colors slate blue, deep coral and sand are brilliant and the linoleum is in remarkably fine condition, now mounted on board for easy hanging.

"Jump Shot, " Model for Art Deco Bronze Basketball Award Plaque, 1940s
By Fred Torrey

Perhaps because it depicts its figures more as Greek athletes rather than modern players, this bronze Art Deco plaque is very rare, or possibly unique. The artist, Fred Torrey, depicts a Classic jump shot, with two virtually nude basketball players leaping up for the ball. Best known for his "Lincoln Walks at Midnight" sculpture which premiered at the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair (now displayed near the West Virginia state...

"Shore Leave, " Large Art Deco Mural with Sailors at New Orleans Brothel, 1940s
Located in Philadelphia, PA
One of the most striking and remarkable Art Deco paintings we have ever offered, this depiction of a group of 1940s sailors visiting a New Orleans brothel is full of boisterous energy and strong color, providing an amused and amusing view of Navy life during or after World War II. The sailors -- in their tight white pants and youthful swagger -- are enjoying the company of an array of brothel workers, reigned over by a madam dressed in ruby red, with two young paramours to her side. Taking it all in is a group of jeering young men in straw hats to the right, and a young gay...
