A great image by the noted Pop Artist Ron English. This work is a c print on Canvas. Title on the back and signed Elvis Elvis Purple Orange, Orange Purple. It is also signed English. Measures 36x36 inches. The work is wonderfully evocative and very much in Ron English’s Popaganda style. This work is not framed and wraps around the edges as left by the artist. It is in good condition although i noticed a minuscule spot with some black touch up pictured. Unframed. Signed: F. GAILLIARD (l/r), Circa 1890. Measures: Canvas height: 95 inches (241.3 cm). Canvas width: 84 1/2 inches (214.6 cm). Franz F.D.A. Gailliard (1861-1932) was a Belgian Neo-Impressionnist and Luminist painter of figures, portraits, landscapes and beach scenes. He was also a reporter, watercolourist and draughtsman for French, English and Belgian lifestyle magazines and newspapers such as the French Le Patriote illustre´, Belgian Le Petit Bleu and English London Illustrated News. He received his artistic education at the Academy of Brussels under the tutorship of Jean Portaels, Joseph Stallaert and Franc¸ois Bossuet. Gailliard also studied at the Brussels Academy of Beaux-Arts and in Paris under the supervision of Jean-Le´on Ge´ro^me (French, 1824–1904) and followed class together with his contemporaries James Ensor, Le´on Fre´de´ric and Fernand Khnopff. He met up with the renowned American painter James Whistler in 1887 and showed him around Brussels. He was the first artist to introduce the "dripping" method in 1891. After having painting in a realist and traditional style, he got influenced by the Impressionist French School, and headed toward a "luministe-divisionniste" technique in his latest period. He exhibited at the Brussels Salon, and at the Salon des Artistes Franc¸ais in Paris from 1882 to 1891, as well as in Venice and Du¨sseldorf. Gailliard exhibited his oeuvre at the "Cercle Artistique et Litte´raire" in Brussels in 1910 and 1913. He became eventually director at the Academy of Sint-Gillis where his son Jean-Jacques Gailliard took class in order to also become painter. A retrospective was held in is honour is 1957 in Sint-Gillis. Even though he was influenced by the Art Deco aesthetics after the First War, he never stopped studying and experimenting with light. Gailliard exhibited at The Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte della Citta` di Venezia (Venice) in 1909 and at La Biennale di Venezia, (Venice) in 1907. He also exhibited at Le Muse´e d'Ixelles, Brussels. Gailliard died in Brussels on February 16, 1932. Fantastic large abstract informal painting with a poectic note in wonderful colors signed Danilo Picchiotti 1987. The original artist frame in red allows the artistic design to run into the frame or integrates the frame into the artwork Childhood and the French period Danilo Picchiotti was born in 1933. His childhood and youth are characterized by the restless search of an artistic expression for his own sensibility and perception, as well as his very strong sense of existence. This would eventually lead him to join an art club known as “I Pennelacci” (the Paintbrushes) in his hometown in Rome at the early age of 18. He then starts devoting himself exclusively and passionately to reading and painting. He moves to Paris in 1952. In Paris he explores the stimulating and innovativeenvironmentsrepresented by the local versions of Surrealism of the period. From that moment onwards, he allows his own existence to be overwhelmed by his art until he becomes his art’s main subject, firmly convinced that self-consciousness and stylistic research are closely linked. This immense labour will find the truest expression of his artistic and existential sensibility in Surrealism. From his early career to action painting. During the early 1970s, the artistic environment in Rome and his successful participation to several collective art exhibitions, especially with the “Pennellacci” club, leads him to his public debut and paves the way to a very important and busy period. Later on, after enormous intellectual labour, he approaches the gestural informal painting, also known as “Action Painting”. This art movement was mostly developed in the United States, and is also called Abstract Expressionism. The most celebrated artist of this movement is Jackson Pollock. In 1986 Danilo Picchiotti holds a number of exhibitions of works that are strongly influenced by this art movement (action painting). The latest works of the artist. In Europe, the French painter Jean Fautrier begins incorporating his paintings with plastic materials that burst out of the canvas, overcoming the boundary between two-dimensional images and plastic forms. This type of painting will be called “Matter Painting”; other painters will join this movement including Jean Dubuffet, Antoni Tápies and the Italian Alberto Burri. While some artists hide into the sign, others, including Picchiotti, emphasises the matter that identifies the work itself, by choosing any kind of material such as wood, fabric, glass, wall or even colour, which are arranged on the canvas, assuming their own physicality and are transformed, layer by layer, by using fire, water and other elements. Beginning from 2000, after several years of artistic inactivity due to health problems, Danilo Picchiotti, today more culturally open-minded than ever, returns to painting with determination, strength and energy giving birth to his new “GESTURAL MATTER” period.
