19th Century French Limoges Enamel Plaque in Gilt Bronze Frame

About the Item

This beautiful Limoges enamel plaque depicts a knight in full armour. He is portrayed turning towards the viewer, as though he is about to unsheathe his sword. The knight stands before classical white stone fluted columns and heavy velvet curtains, which are drawn back. He wears sumptuous, brightly-coloured clothes. The plaque is displayed in a gilt bronze frame. This features braided and foliate borders, and its crest rail is decorated with swags, scrolled fruiting vines and wreaths. Plaque: Height 14 cm, width 10 cm Frame: Height 24 cm, width 16.5 cm, depth 1.5 cm.
