About the Item

Nineteenth century Marine view Oil on canvas, 74.5 x 100.5 cm Frame 100 x 126 cm The arrival of the storm is announced on the left side of the canvas by the presence of rain clouds on the horizon. The waves, which break against the coasts formed by high cliffs and make the white seagulls that were placed there rise in flight, communicate the sense of restlessness of nature and the impending storm. In the center of the painting there is a boat depicted with attention to detail, while on the horizon the arrival of other sailing ships is partially hidden by the mist. On the boat you can recognize the figures of sailors intent on managing the ship lapped by the waves. The whole scene is dominated by the high cliffs and the force of nature, while a seaside village can be seen on their slopes. The sea was created using a wide range of colors based on shades of blues and greens; Rapid, rich brushstrokes of white outline the foam and rippling surface of the waves. The landscape is largely occupied by the sky, in the lateral parts it is dark and stormy, while in the central part it is still light and bright. The romantic approach of the marine view is evident: the force of the sea, the succession of the waves and the leaden sky refer to the vision of a turbulent nature and endowed with an indisputable strength. while in the central part it is still clear and bright.
