An English oil on canvas horizontal painting from the mid 19th century, signed and dated, depicting a stationary bloodhound hunting dog, in carved giltwood frame. Created in England during the third quarter of the 19th century, this oil on canvas horizontal painting depicts a stationary bloodhound dog standing quietly in a landscape. Represented in profile in the foreground, the dog is standing out beautifully on the dark woods present on the right, his head contrasting with the blue sky of the upper left. His russet, white and black coat compliments the earthy tones. The palette is indeed made mostly of brown and green colors. The painting is signed lower left, dated 1871 and is secured inside a giltwood frame. With its sweet depiction and calming colors, this English framed oil on canvas dog painting will make for a wonderful decorative addition to any home, perhaps hung on a wall above a side table, a buffet or a credenza.
