Oil on canvas that shows, on a background with trees and hills, a child figure sitting on a pedestal, with an hourglass, a skull under one foot and a palm. Note both the symbolism of these elements and the one that the figure points to the religious theme in the background of the painting (Resurrection of Christ), wanting to highlight the ephemerality of life and the importance of the Hereafter, Salvation, etc., hence the title of Vánitas.
Vincent Sellaer (c. 1500-Mechelen, before 1589) was a Flemish painter known for his religious, mythological and allegorical works, and was also known as Vincent Geldersman. The fact that documents with two or three generations of painters with the same name have been found has made it difficult for historiography to highlight the relevance of this master.
It is known that he traveled to Italy, and that he worked in Mechelen (doc. 1538-1544), and, to date, only one signed work has been found (Let the children come to me, 1538, Alte Pinakothek, Munich) Although museums such as the Prado in Madrid, the one in Huelva, the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Seattle Art Museum (Seattle, Washington, USA), etc. have his works."·
