“Venice, Piazza San Marco” circle of Gaspare Vanvitelli Oil on Canvas ca 1730
About the Item
This is an absolutely stunning 18th century topographical painting, genre of which known as “veduta”. The crucial role in the development of that genre played Caspar van Wittel or Gaspar van Wittel -known in Italian as Gaspare Vanvitelli , he was dutch by origin but most of his life he spent in Italy working in Rome. He got a big credit for making topography look like a painted art.
This magnificent extremely detailed painting had been created in manner of Vanvitelli, most likely from a master of his circle as he had lots of collaborators working in “veduta” style .
The colors are spectacular and the meticulously painted details of the St. Mark’s square and Basilica,Gondolas ,ships and water which is almost visibly moving by the wind, it is all makes a great impact on anyone who takes a look at this masterpiece.
An incredible museums piece and a true piece of art which can not be unnoticeable.
