About the Item

A wonderful example of Mary Stuart (Mary, Queen of Scots) hand wrought commemorative embroidery with a central foliate cartouche surrounded by four smaller ones, each with metallic thread and accented with colorful foliate background silk and metal thread designs. The embroidery is presented under glass in a hand carved graduated wooden frame. Dates to circa 1560, France, in very good conserved condition, with minor imperfections, minor discoloration in spots, and light fade and wear commensurate with age and use. The conservator information can be found on verso. Dimensions: 13.5 in H x 20.13 in W, actual; 16.5 in H x 23.25 in W x 1 in D. Ref: 13380
