About the Item

Perhaps inspired by the renewal of ancient weaving traditions undertaken by the Ramses Wissa Wassef workshop in Egypt, among others in North Africa, this marvelous Mid-Century tapestry in nubby wool depicts a variety of flora and fauna from the region. In addition to two giraffes in the lower right hand panel, a group of water birds in a golden yellow are depicted in one panel, and striped dogs in another. The colors are gorgeous, including coral, deep green and red the color of wine, among others. The ground is a rich grey reminiscent of a Fine flannel suit. The tapestry comes from a Mid-Century home in Massachusetts.
