Boucheron Art Deco Invisibly-Set Ruby Diamond Suite, circa 1930

About the Item

Captivating and enigmatic, the serpent has been a timeless theme in jewelry, and this Boucheron Invisibly-Set Ruby and Diamond Suite, crafted in France in 1930 during the Art Deco era, embodies its allure. Consisting of four distinct pieces — a bangle bracelet, twin brooches, and ear clips — all Signed Boucheron London from France, the suite showcases a yin-yang interplay of contrasting materials. Fashioned in 18K yellow gold and platinum, each piece boasts rich red calibré rubies and round/single-cut diamonds, presenting an abstract depiction of entwined serpents. Rooted in the symbolic significance of protection, fertility, creativity, and eternal life, the serpent's sinuous form lends itself gracefully to metalwork and jewels. The suite's design, inspired by the flowing style of Art Nouveau, reveals the dynamism typical of the movement, with stones "invisibly set" to evoke the geometric sleekness of the Art Deco period. The centerpiece is a showstopping bangle bracelet, featuring opposing forces in a yin-yang configuration with two serpents seamlessly fitting together. Crafted with precision in 18K yellow gold, it showcases 65 calibré rubies and 42 pavé diamonds. The twin brooches and clip-back earrings mirror the theme, adorned with calibré rubies and round diamonds, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and technical skill. The suite's "invisible setting" technique, a hallmark of the Art Deco Period, highlights the jewel-centric look, with custom-cut gemstones snugly fitted against each other. Frédéric Boucheron, a pioneer in contemporary jewelry, founded the Maison Boucheron in 1858, and these pieces, much like the later Serpent Bohème Diamond designs, reflect a modern, assertive femininity. Included with the suite is the original Boucheron box. The bangle bracelet features 65 calibré rubies and 42 round/single-cut diamonds. The twin brooches boast 117 calibré rubies and 50 round diamonds. The ear clips showcase 60 calibré rubies and 26 round diamonds. The overall weight is approximately 99.31 grams, crafted in 18K yellow gold and platinum. All pieces are Signed "Boucheron London from France," and the suite dates back to the period of 1930-1939.
