Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Bird Brooch with Lapis Lazuli, circa 1933 - 1944

About the Item

I'm pleased to offer a rather hard to find Bird with Berries Brooch by the esteemed Danish silversmith, Georg Jensen. Sometimes referred to as "the Raven," this wonderful piece is made of sterling silver with beautiful, graduated Lapis Lazuli cabochons that resemble juicy, ripe blueberries. (this is the first version of this design, #187, I've come across with Lapis. I've seen the plain silver version and one with silver-colored pearls. The Lapis really elevates the design, in my opinion.) The marks on the reverse indicate it was made in the 1933 - 1944 period. Measuring approximately 1 5/8 inches x 1 inch (41.2 x 25 mm), the piece weighs 8.43 grams on my scale. Remaining in very good condition, I see only some expected patina (mostly on the back) and very, very slight wear. The original old style locking clasp and pin work as intended so the brooch is ready to wear and enjoy. A really lovely find in such nice condition!
