Ancient Greek 1st Century BC Bronze Pegasus Coin 18K Gold Pendant

About the Item

An authentic large bronze coin depicting Pegasus drinking, with Greek letters AMISOS below was struck between 85-65 BC in the ancient Greek region of Pontos, Amisos which is now on the northern coast of Turkey bordering the Black Sea. Amisos was a significant trading port due to its strategic location. During the Hellenistic era, Amisos flourished under the rule of the Pontic Kingdom, particularly during the reign of Mithridates VI Eupator. This particular coin has a visage of the Greek hero Perseus with the face of Mithridates on the reverse side. Pegasus was a symbol of freedom and imagination, and was often associated with poets, artists, and dreamers. According to legend, Pegasus was a loyal and noble creature, and was often ridden by heroes and gods. This coin is set within a Steven Battelle designed handmade line textured 18K gold bezel with similar bail. The pendant comes with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.
