Victorian 14k Gold Diamond Scent Perfume Bottle Pendant

About the Item

Such an elegant antique gold scent bottle dating to the Victorian period - with a fiery little old mine cut diamond, the bottle's original chain and even the little chain that attaches to the bottle's lid. Crafted of solid 14K gold, the antique scent or perfume bottle has a wonderful scrolling floral design all the way around, and a fine quality, small old mine cut diamond to the front. The lid is in good working order, with a tight seal, allowing one to wear liquid perfume or a little scent-soaked bit of cotton inside. A small bail has been added sometime in the past to the bottle's original suspension chain, though I think it would also look lovely on an antique chain using a dog clasp or hook. Measuring from the top of the lid to the bottom of the bottle, the length is a little under 1 11/16 of an inch or approximately 26 mm. It's approximately 1 1/2 inches to the top of the added bail and just over 1 1/4 inches to the top ring of the original suspension chain. The bottle is approximately 5/16 of an inch in depth (8.22 mm) On my scale, the weight of the piece is 5.91 grams. I love the graceful, intricate design - it's really as lovely on the back as on the front, with the detail still nice and crisp. I estimate the small, very fiery, old cut diamond to be approximately .12 - .14 carats, with its chunky old cut, cushiony shape and open culet. Held in place with six prongs, both the prongs and the diamond remain in very good condition, I see no nicks, chips or scratches to the diamond, and only slight expected wear to the prongs. The diamond's color is good, the clarity is nice and clean even under magnification and it's original to the bottle. The lid fits very snugly - in fact it takes a little effort to pull it out, and I find when replacing it, it fits best in one direction. It shows a little wear on the seam inside, but still works very well. The delicate chain (of oblong links) keeps the lid attached to the bottle - it is attaches inside the gold lid and then at the center bottom of the inside of the bottle. Usually I don't find these in such nice condition - under magnification there is a little wear to the high karat finish, otherwise it's in particularly fine condition for its age and ready to use and enjoy.
