The Emerge side table is a modern organic form made from ancient matai trees (a native timber of New Zealand) that have fallen naturally into rivers and preserved for hundreds of years under sediment layers before natural water erosion exposes them. We rescue these trees from the river and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of functional art. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, has been carbon dated at over 1500 years old. A sculptural shape made from individual pieces of matai wood formed together to make a patch work grain pattern. Icewood Ancient Kauri stump sculpture is a series of timeless colletables. Each one will give a different perspective of the unique beauty of Ancient Kauri. Ancient Kauri or Swamp Kauri refers to Prehistoric Kauri forests, buried and preserved in peat swamp up to 50,000 years ago in New Zealand’s North Island by an unexplained act of nature at the end of the last Ice Age. The kauri trees have survived the centuries underground, sealed in a chemically balanced environment that has preserved the Kauri timber in perfect condition. The Kauri trees grew for nearly 2000 years before they were buried. Some have a girth of around 40 feet, and a total height of nearly 200 feet. Ancient Kauri wood is the oldest workable wood available in the world. Ancient Kauri wood is extremely attractive and beautiful. Tréology is about connecting people to nature through functional art. Odyssey was created after a road trip to New Zealand's wild West Coast to observe nature’s craft work. Looking deep into nature, we saw the layered rock formations along the sea coast and rivers of New Zealand to achieve a functional table base. The design progression sought to bring layering metaphors into the piece, but a solid mass would be visually too heavy. The solution was to add volume through the introduction of negative space and deliver an abstract representation of the rocks and boulders we observed. Odyssey introduces the interplay with both positive and negative space so the perspective alters when walking around the piece. The Odyssey Live Edge Slab Table...

The Canopy table was inspired by a walk through the New Zealand native forest, looking up to the tree canopy observing the tree trunks and branches. Canopy is a design metaphor of the tree itself. Each leg is a trunk with branches that create their own unique spatial geometry with positive and negative spaces. Moving around the table is a true three-dimensional experience where the legs represent the trunks and branches of the trees, and visually interact just like a canopy in the forest. Canopy is also a testament to the craftsmanship of Mother Nature and the craftsmen at Treology. We wanted the timber to tell its own story and a base that added to the narrative. It’s also functional ensuring it accommodates people to sit around and share the pleasure of family dining. The Canopy Live Edge Slab table is made from rimu, a New Zealand native tree, rescued from a river on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. This sustainable timber, naturally felled by nature, is preserved for hundreds of years under sediment layers before natural water erosion exposes them. We rescue these trees and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of functional art. The river rescued trees have been carbon dated at over 1500 years old. The trees location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless steel Tréology tag and attached to the table, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature. Reflect takes its name from the way the base mimics the changing landscape of Fiordland in the South Island of New Zealand. The non-geometric form is reflected on opposite sides yet as you move around the table, the perspective and angles change just as they would on Milford Sound. The Reflect Coffee Table is made from sustainable ancient totara trees that have fallen naturally into rivers and preserved for hundreds of years under sediment layers before natural water erosion exposes them. We rescue these trees and continue their journey to become a cherished piece of functional art. The trees location co-ordinates are inscribed on a stainless steel Tréology tag and attached to the table, connecting the owner to a unique piece of New Zealand nature. Totara is a native tree of New Zealand. It was the primary wood used in Maori carving and to make waka (war canoes) in traditional Maori boat building. The organic live edge slab expresses the raw beauty of the wood and showcases the majestic way in which Mother Nature crafts this wonderful material. A brushed stainless-steel base was chosen to both compliment and highlight the totara’s natural beauty while also presenting a visual reference to where this timber was rescued. This statement piece features the wabi-sabi effect of celebrating the imperfections of naturally felled totara timber hewn into live-edge slabs, butterfly joins and stainless steel, wire-base, sculptural legs. The timber slab has the saw marks from the mill that have been de-burred and sanded so it is pleasant to the touch. The timber is finished with a hand-rubbed, low V.O.C. natural oil to bring the gorgeous wood grain to life. Handmade in Christchurch, New Zealand.
