Ken Beldin Large Scarab Design Pendant, Mid-Century Mexican Mixed Metal
By Ken Beldin
Located in Phoenix, AZ
Modern scarab design vintage mixed metal necklace made in Mexico by ex-pat artist Ken Beldin 1940s and 1950s. Signed on the back: Ken Beldin. In excellent vintage condition. The pendant measures: 3" H x 2 1/4" W. The necklace chain is made of copper, shells, beads, and leather and is approximately 20" total length. The pendant bears a lovely green patina and hangs from the original chain. Ken Beldin (1900-?) was born in Mississippi and was educated at U. of C. Berkeley. He retired as head of a successful ad agency in Los Angeles in 1931 to travel through the Southwest. He worked for a time with Mexico’s National Railways attracting tourists to travel to Mexico by rail and was drawn into the rugged beauty of Mexico and its people. He set up a studio in Tenencingo South of Mexico City near Taxco and began creating one of a kind jewelry and sculpture. He was the custodian of a collection of archeological Pre-Columbian stones, and it was from these he derived his motifs. His "modern Ethnic" jewelry was considered to have the most feeling and the most authentic look of the Period. He worked throughout the 1940s and 1950s with copper, brass, steel, wood and leather. His work was admired and collected by some of the elite of Hollywood including Barbara Hutton, Edward G. Robinson, James Cagny and Sammy Davis, Jr. His friends in Mexico who also purchased his work were: Diego Riviera...

Antique Gothic Revival Hand Carved Oak Wall Cabinet with Green Cathedral Glass
Located in Lisse, NL
Unique and striking Gothic Revival wall cabinet with perfect working lock and key. This handcrafted and probably unique Gothic Revival wall cabinet from the late 1800s is another one of our magnificent recent finds. The size, the quality in the large amount of hand-carved Gothic details, the patina and the excellent condition make this another perfect purchase for collectors of this ancient and highly decorative style. The overal design, including the Gothic church window in the door, is right up there with the best we have seen to date. However, what makes this Gothic work of beauty really stand out for us, is the combination of the patina of the light tiger oak and the perfect condition, green cathedral glass panel in the door. That combination truly is a joy to look at. The door, by the way, still opens and shuts tight perfectly and it comes with a perfect working lock and key. Have you also noticed the original, gilt bronze lock plate? That is a work of art in its own right. The clean inside of this cabinet comes with two removable, solid oak shelves and the inside of the door is veneered with a wonderful bird's eye maple. On the back of this unique and antique Gothic cabinet...

Antique Gilt Wooden Gothic Art Hand Carved Gargoyle Wall Bracket Shelf / Corbel
Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning and amazingly hand carved, Gothic gargoyle bracket. If you are a collector of rare and striking Gothic antiques then this bracket could be the perfect addition to your collection. This all handcrafted and marvellously hand carved antique wall bracket in the form of a squated and winged gargoyle with a grotesque head is one of the best works of Gothic art we have ever seen. Its perfect posture and the top quality carved details of its creepy head, its lion's tail, its claw feet and its deeply carved wings are some of the elements that make this antique truly extraordinary. The beautifully carved edge on the shelf has the most amazing shape and combined with the ancient patina of its entirely gilt surface, this Gothic Revival bracket is an absolute joy to look at. This finest quality antique can be the perfect base or display for a statuette, a small clock, a vase, etc. However, because of its uniqueness, its top quality workmanship and its extreme decorative appeal, this wall bracket certainly does not need anything on top. Thanks to the brass hooks on the back this fascinating gargoyle shelf...

Albert Oehlen Book
By Hans Werner Holzwarth
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The definitive monograph of Oehlen's work to date. Limited to 1,000 numbered copies, each signed by Albert Oehlen. Also available: An Art Edition limited to 100 copies, each signed by the artist and accompanied by an original artwork. Often wryly funny and just as smart, Albert Oehlen’s paintings play the medium for all it’s worth and then some. After realizing that the so-called death of painting freed him to explore "the number of aspects through which one could expand painting," Oehlen started work on a wide variety of figurative and non-objective offerings, in what he has called his "post-non-figurative" art. The artist continuously challenges himself, setting up rules that force him to overcome convention and his own routine in order to arrive at a satisfying image. During his career he has chosen to paint in primary colors only or in gray, to integrate mirrors into his canvases, or to start on computer paintings when the first PCs became available. In his most recent work Oehlen expands painting through the use of advertising posters whose in-your-face aesthetics he transforms with subtle brushwork. Never without a touch of tongue-in-cheek humour, his work seems to be winking at us as it dares us to change the way we perceive an image. This XL monograph covers the entire Scope of Oehlen’s oeuvre: Roberto Ohrt discusses the early years, when Oehlen came into his own alongside Kippenberger, Bu¨ttner, and others, part of a scene that broke rules in art and rock music. Klaus Kertess examines the years from 1988 onwards, when Oehlen saw himself more self-consciously as a painter and started his first abstract works, then continued to probe the limits of the medium. Martin Prinzhorn and John Corbett...
