Rastersonne - Contemporary, 21st Century, Gold varnish, Limited Edition
By Otto Piene
Located in Zug, CH
Otto Piene, Rastersonne Contemporary, 21st Century, Gold varnish, Limited Edition Gold varnish on clay Edition of 99, each piece is unique 47 x 47 x 2 cm (18.5 x 18.5 x 0.8 in) Stamped and numbered, accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity In mint condition, as acquired from the publisher Fire, earth, and metal: these elementary forces played a very important role in the oeuvre of Otto Piene. After many years of artistic productions in 2006, he discovered a new material for his artworks: ceramic. "With my artworks I want to transmit energy” — Otto Piene He created wonderful mural reliefs in ceramic. He dropped viscous varnish through different raster-barriers on a prepared clay platter. Not only the setting of the platinum drops creates the individual and unique look of each work but also their convex and interleaving forms. The slight convexity of the platinum varnish drops reflects the light and gives the artwork a discreet white shine. With the mélange of archaic and modern elements, Piene achieves an impressing artwork with this powerful material. OTTO PIENE Otto Piene is one of the most important German post-war artists. In 1957- Otto Piene and Heinz Mack founded the group ZERO. Otto Piene is one of the most important German post-war artists. Born in 1929 Otto Piene was brought up in Lübeck (Germany) and, after his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and Düsseldorf, he completed his academic education with studies on philosophy at the University of Cologne. In 1957- Otto Piene and Heinz Mack founded the group ZERO; which Günther Uecker joined in 1961. Their aim was to create a recommencement of contemporary art, starting at the point ZERO with new artworks emphasizing predominantly on light. Piene primarily aimed in his artworks to visualize light, fire, and air; so he started to create Op-Art inspired raster paintings, followed by smoke and fire...

One of the mainstays of making art is that you don't think of the new ideas, you discover them. "One of the mainstays of the making art is that you don't think of the new ideas, you discover them." — Donald Sultan White Tulips and Vase, April 4, 2014, represents Sultan's still-life, where the shape of the object is reduced to the bare essentials. The image reveals one of the key features of Sultan’s work - the material juxtaposition- the contrast of a weighty background with ethereal shapes of the flowers. The sculpture is made from painted aluminum on a polished aluminum base. The ephemeral shape of the flowers is gracefully combined with the weighty aluminum manifesting the synthesis of the natural and the industrial typical to Sultan´s work. The sculpture is incised with title, date, and artist initials, it is as well stamped with the edition number, publisher, and artist copyright stamp on the base verso. DONALD SULTAN Donald Sultan (born 1951, Asheville, US) is a distinguished painter, sculptor, and printmaker, who rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the “New Image” movement. He is best known for the use of abstracted, geometric black forms against organic areas of bright color. Donald Sultan (USA, born 1951) is a distinguished painter, sculptor, and printmaker, who rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the New Yorker “New Image” movement. He has a unique artistic method and innovative approach to traditional subject matter. Known as Abstract Representation, Donald Sultan´s art is characterized by the use of geometric black forms set against organic areas of bright color, thus bringing an abstract sensibility to his iconographic images of still life. Throughout his career he has revisited and reinvented still life, using images of lemons, poppies, playing cards, fruits, flowers, and other objects. Donald Sultan’s Lemons...

Edition of 25; Ed. no. 6/25 Nick Knight is among the world’s most influential and visionary photographers. He has worked on a range of often controversial issues during his career – from racism, disability, ageism, and more recently fat-ism. He continually challenges conventional ideals of beauty. The photographer Nick Knight has been portraying international supermodel Kate Moss for more than two decades. As one of the most photographed women in the world who has been accompanied by Knight for many years, Moss serves as the subject of his work. In cooperation with the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg, the world famous photographer has eternalised a three-dimensional portrait of the Briton in biscuit porcelain for the first time. The figurine developed in the master workshops of Nymphenburg in 2014 is reminiscent of Christian iconography. Attributes such as the filigree crown of thorns and the voluminous loincloth make reference to religious relics...
