Jim Conway
The Corner of Sycamore and Malaguerra - Colored Pencil Tree and Field Landscape

2021

$700

About

"The Corner of Sycamore and Malaguerra" is a colored pencil drawing by Bay Area artist James Conway. The drawing shows a gathering of leaning sycamore trees near Coyote Creek in Anderson Lake County Park in Morgan Hill. Overhead, billowing clouds sweep through a deep blue sky. For more works by James Conway and new listings, follow our storefront at Colibri Gallery. James attended San Jose State University and holds his B.A. and M.A. in Art. James draws to make a connection with the beauty and order he sees in nature and around his home. Working in many layers over several weeks, James slowly builds up subtle values, colors and details in each carefully crafted drawing. The look and feel of a colored pencil artwork is influenced greatly by the pressure of the artist's hand during application of the colors and the applied method of layering. Tiny overlapping circular marks can be made to create a smooth and even look, or crosshatching for a textured surface that emphasizes movement and implies form.
