Old Town Streets, Mid Century Modern Chilean Village Figurative Landscape
By Luis Valenzuela
Located in Soquel, CA
Old Town Streets, Mid Century Modern Chilean Village Figurative Landscape Vibrant and expressive mid century modern figural landscape oil painting by Luis Valenzuela (Chilean, 20th Century), 1965. Small silhouetted figures stroll down the colorful yellow and blue city streets of old Santiago, Chile at night. The artist uses loose, painterly brushstrokes and dots the canvas with warm red highlights, giving this piece a sense of exuberance and life. Signed "Luis Valenzuela 1965" lower left. Presented in a carved period giltwood frame. Board size; 20"H x 24"W. Luis Valenzuela was born in Santiago de Chile. He studied his elementary and middle school in Victorino Lastarria (Providencia). At age 17 he started in the oil painting arts, where his innate talent flows. It was perfected in the Palace of Fine Arts (1964, 1965), receiving instruction from teachers Carlos Pedraza, Reinaldo Villaseñor, Matilde...

Urban Coyote - Highly Detailed Photorealist Painting of Coyote in Urban Setting
Located in Chicago, IL
ARTIST'S STATEMENT Creating is an addiction. With all the highs and lows you would expect. I am interested in the surface textures and creating paintings that portray them in realistic detail. Hopefully a viewer will feel they can run a hand over the feathers and moss, or grasp an object in the painting. This detail is usually composed in an abstract design. The design can occur naturally or be arranged by me. The subjects of my paintings are usually based on the patterns and textures of nature and human interaction with nature. I have found subjects to paint in remote wilderness areas of the world, local parking lots, and my own backyard. Old City, Abstract Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist Pat Forbes depicts an abstract landscape with large towering structures under a murky atmosphere. "This piece reflects on the pleasures of traveling, and the joy of experiencing new and exciting places," says Pat. Uneven lines make up chunks of large structural shapes drawn close to one another. A green glowing sphere shines above the city that features prominent hues of blue, green, and yellow.

About the Artist
Pat Forbes is an abstract painter whose aesthetic is heavily influenced by her 20 years as a collector and dealer of Middle Eastern textiles. Pat, who lives on the west coast of Florida, uses a neutral palette to present her interpretation of the world around her– from marshes and mountains to stones and spiderwebs. She is drawn to pattern and design, both of which influence the use of balanced repetition in her work. Pat’s muted colors invite pensive meditation, while her deliberate use of line guides the eye through satisfyingly symmetrical compositions.

Shop Abstract, Landscape, Figurative and Still-Life Paintings

Painting is an art form that has spanned innumerable cultures, with artists using the medium to tell stories, explore and communicate ideas and express themselves. To bring abstract, landscape and still-life paintings into your home is to celebrate and share in the long tradition of this discipline.

When we look at paintings, particularly those that originated in the past, we learn about history, other cultures and countries of the world. Like every other work of art, paintings — whether they are contemporary creations or works that were made during the 19th century — can often help us clearly see and understand the world around us in a meaningful and interesting way.

Cave walls were the canvases for what were arguably the world’s first landscape paintings, which depict natural scenery through art. Portrait paintings and drawings, which, along with sculpture, were how someone’s appearance was recorded prior to the advent of photography, are at least as old as Ancient Egypt. In the Netherlands, landscapes were a major theme for painters as early as the 1500s. Later, artists in Greece, Rome and elsewhere created vast wall paintings to decorate stately homes, churches and tombs. Today, creating a wall of art is a wonderful way to enhance your space, showcase beautiful pieces and tie an interior design together.

No matter your preference, whether you favor Post-Impressionist paintings, animal paintings, Surrealism, Pop art or another movement or specific period, arranging art on a blank wall allows you to evoke emotions in a room while also showing off your tastes and interests. A symmetrical wall arrangement may comprise a grid of four to six pieces or, for an odd number of works, a horizontal row. Asymmetrical arrangements, which may be small clusters of art or large, salon-style gallery walls, have a more collected and eclectic feel. Download the 1stDibs app, which includes a handy “View on Wall” feature that allows you to see how a particular artwork will look on a particular wall, and read about how to arrange wall art. And if you’re searching for the perfect palette for your interior design project, what better place to turn than to the art world’s masters of color?

On 1stDibs, you’ll find an expansive collection of paintings and other fine art for your home or office. Browse abstract paintings, portrait paintings, paintings by popular artists and more today.
