About the Item

The Body is an original artwork realized by Maurice Rouzée in the 1940s. Hand-signed by the artist on the upper left margin. Good conditions. The artwork represents an abstract composition with a standing female figure and two hands on the left side. The colors are lively and bright and give to the artwork a sense of joy and of great energy. The artist realized, during these years, many artworks taking as model the worlds of theatre and dance. On the right of this artwork, indeed, there is a standing female figure with a bright yellow shape over her head. Maurice Rouzée was a French painter, designer and artist. He realized many sets for the Opéra national de Paris and frequented Cubist and abstract artists. His artworks, in fact, are characterized by fragmented shapes and lines and by a great sense of movement and dynamism. The subjects of his artworks are often connected with the Dance or the Theatre world, and they are characterized by geometrical shapes and volumes.

Figure, colorful, torso, figural
Located in New York, NY
Figurative work, depicting a torso from the back in slightly 3/4 view and cut off at the knees, defined with painterly brush strokes in an earthy palette of browns, greens, and oranges. Luis Frangella (1944-1990) was a figurative, postmodern painter and sculptor. He earned a masters in architecture at the University of Buenos Aires in 1972 and then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973. In 1976, he moved to New York City where he painted huge “street” murals on construction site wall, abandoned Hudson River piers and in the nightclubs of the East Village and Tribeca. Situated in these nontraditional spaces, he began working with subversive artists like Wojnarowicz. Luis was a sort of father figure to many younger artists, becoming an influential member of the East Village art scene. Known as a good cook, he fostered a sense of community and caring, often serving impromptu meals in his loft after the late-night club scene...
