She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Gerhard Richter, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. In 1984 Mauel was asked by the city of Wuppertal, Germany to paint scenes of the dance theater of Pina Bausch. This had a major influence on the selection of themes in her imagery. Rather than focusing on spectacular poses, she pays acute attention to the spontaneous movements in between, capturing a resonating rush of color and form. These impromptu paintings combine a long tradition of Eastern scroll painting, expressionist sketching, and fashion illustration. She lives and works as a lecturer in painting and artist in Cologne, Germany. His father was Jacobus de Liemaecker, a painter upon glass. Nicolaas is reported to have been trained by his father and Gaspard de Crayer II (1), an apprenticeship with Otto Van Veen has also been suggested. In 1624 he worked at the Court of the Bishop of Paderborn and for Ferdinand of Bavaria. He later returned to his native city, where he focused on religious and historical paintings. With its weeping willow trees and picturesque red barn, it made for a happy home nestled in the heart of San Felipe Valley. Henry Coe State Park is named after her Grandfather Henry Willard Coe. She studied art at Stanford University and graduated in the 1950's. While there, she met S. Gainer Pillsbury, MD, a fellow alumnus, whom she married on June 19, 1956. While an accomplished user of charcoals and Conte crayons, Ms. Coe painted in primarily in oils, showing and winning awards in Reno, Nevada in the early 1960's. Her works, including landscapes and portraits, have been featured in numerous newspaper articles in the Reno Gazette-Journal. Holmes, known for ornamental architectural sculpting as well as painting and etching, was born in Albany, Oregon, 1900. He began formal art training in Galveston high school; studied five years in Texas Christian University, serving also as student assistant and art editor for College annual. He received his Certificate of Art and Bachelor of Arts Degree and became a faculty member in the Art Department. He left teaching to serve a five-year apprenticeship to achieve membership in Modelers and Sculptors of America. He studied with George Franz of Germany and Michael Lengyl of Austria. He has done ornamental architectural sculpturing over forty years and enjoys a broad art horizon that includes sculpting, painting, designing, ceramics, carving, gold-leafing, restoration, etc. He paints in any medium and any subject matter, but prefers oils and landscapes. He studied at Texas Christian University with Mary Sue Darter Coleman, Mrs. R. E. Cockerell, Sam P. Ziegler, and others. In California, he studied with George Flowers, at the Pasadena Art Institute, and in workshops with Lee McCarthy, Leonard Boreman, and etching with Bernard Wall. He has held membership in Painters' Club and Fort Worth Art Association; American Federation of Art; River Art Group and Coppini Academy of Fine Arts in San Antonio; Southwest Ceramic Society; San Angelo Art Club and Arts Council, and others. Dwight Holmes began winning art awards at age 13, and has continued receiving numerous honors and awards over the years. He has held art exhibits all over the Southwest, from Florida to California. His works have been shown in Boston, Cleveland, New York, Kansas City, Columbia, Mo. and elsewhere. He has painted along the Gulf, East and West Coasts; throughout Texas; in Mexico, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, California, Tennessee, Georgia, in the Great Smokies, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Red Rock Country, Hawaii, etc. He maintains a studio at 2401 Sherwood Way, San Angelo, Texas, but enjoys doing much of his painting out on locations, His interests include: juror for shows; giving criticisms and appraisals, and conducting art workshops and art colonies. This lovely British Victorian landscape oil painting is by noted artist Sam Bough. It was painted in 1855 after Bough had moved to Hamilton Lanarkshire in Scotland to focus on painting landscapes alongside fellow artist Alexander Frazer. The location is the ancient forest of Cadzow in Lanarkshire which they both favoured. The landscape is of a rough path through ancient oaks heading towards more dense forest with white cattle grazing to the right. A superb balanced composition and an excellent example of Bough's skill in landscape painting. Signed lower left and dated 1855. Provenance. Christie's stencil verso 519GG. Samuel Bough RSA (1822–1878) was an English-born landscape painter who spent much of his career working in Scotland. He was born the third of five children in Abbey Street, Carlisle in northern England, the son of James Bough (1794-1845), a shoemaker, and Lucy Walker, a cook. He was raised in relative poverty, but with a keen encouragement in the arts. He was self-taught but mixed with local artists such as Richard Harrington and George Sheffield, and was strongly influenced by the work of Turner. After an unsuccessful attempt to live as an artist in Carlisle he obtained a job and as a theatre scenery painter in Manchester in 1845, later also working in Glasgow in the same role. Encouraged by Daniel Macnee to take up landscape painting he moved to Hamilton from 1851-4 and worked there with Alexander Fraser. In 1854 he moved to Port Glasgow to work on his technique of painting ships and harbours. His paintings were noted for their sensitivity to atmosphere and light, were often of cloudy shorelines and busy harbours. He also began supplementing his income by illustrating books, before moving to Edinburgh in 1855. On coming to Edinburgh he lived in a terraced house at 5 Malta Terrace in the Stockbridge area of the city. Following Turner's example, he became a skil ful painter of seaports.
