(Photo by Slim Aarons/Getty Images) Slim Aarons Holiday in Boston 1959 (printed later) C print Estate stamped and numbered edition 1 of 150 with Certificate of authenticity Slim Aarons, an acclaimed fine art photographer, is synonymous with images that capture the luxury, glamour, and jet-set lifestyle of the mid-20th century. Renowned for his candid portraits of celebrities, socialites, and the global elite, Aarons' work celebrates vintage elegance and opulent leisure, as epitomized in his iconic 1970 photograph "Poolside Gossip" series, which include the former fashion model Helen Dzo Dzo Kaptur and Nelda Linsk, and art dealer Joseph Linsk, at the Richard Neutra's designed Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs, California, arguably the most famous home in Palm Springs. The Linsks are the current owners of the house.. Granted exclusive access to the world's most elite gatherings, he wove tales of extravagance, often juxtaposed against mesmerizing modernist architecture. His photography, reminiscent of the distinct styles of contemporaries like Horst P. Horst, Helmut Newton, and Bert Stern, has been showcased in esteemed institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Palm Springs Art Museum, Getty Images Gallery, and IFAC Arts. Slim Aarons (1916-2006) primarily worked for society publications, capturing "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places." He photographed the rich and famous both before and after his tenure as a photographer for the US military magazine, Yank, during World War II. His work has been featured in publications like Town and Country, Holiday, Venture, and LIFE. Though closely aligned with Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson, Aarons chose not to join them in founding Magnum. Instead, he transitioned from black and white photography, immersing himself in a world of sun-drenched glamour and light-heartedness. His intimate portrayals of the elite and the jet set brim with the wit and charisma that granted Aarons unparalleled access to high society. IFAC Arts, in collaboration with Getty Images, presents Slim Aarons' extensive archive. Spanning six decades, this collection showcases a lifestyle that many dream of but few experience. Expert restoration and darkroom work on the original negatives and transparencies enable prints in the largest photographic sizes, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in these dazzling depictions of the good life. Ormond Gigli 'Girls in the Windows'
By Ormond Gigli
Located in New York, NY
Ormond Gigli Girls in the Window, 1960 (printed later) Color coupler print 37 x 37 inches edition of 45 Signed, numbered and dated by the artist unframed Ormond Gigli: The Visionary Behind the "Girls in the Windows" Ormond Gigli is a highly regarded American photojournalist, best known for his breathtaking portraiture and surreal fashion photography. With a career spanning over four decades, Gigli's visual narratives have appeared in prominent international publications such as TIME, LIFE, Paris Match, and Colliers. Gigli began his journey in the 1950s, gaining recognition for his captivating photographs of theater, film, and dance. His subjects were a medley of cultural icons - Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Anita Ekberg, Marcel Duchamp, Willem de Kooning, John F. Kennedy, Halston, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, Richard Burton, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and many more. His approach to portraiture was as much about his technical prowess and compositional elegance as it was about his ability to elicit his subject's spirit and character, a skill that would mark him as one of the luminaries of his time, akin to contemporaries such as Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, and Diane Arbus. Yet, the pièce de résistance of Gigli's illustrious career is the iconic photograph known as "Girls in the Windows," taken in 1960. This masterwork exemplifies Gigli's innovative vision and ability to transform the everyday into a tableau vivant of unparalleled aesthetic appeal. The image depicts 43 women poised in the windows of a New York City brownstone, exuding an ephemeral vibrancy that captures the essence of 1960s fashion and art photography. Born in New York City in 1925, Gigli's passion for photography blossomed...
