Keeping the Culture, mixed media signed/N print by top African American artist
Located in New York, NY
Kerry James Marshall Keeping the Culture, 2011 Silkscreen and linocut in colors with full margins and deckled edges on Arches paper with full margins and deckled edges 20-1/4 x 30-1/4 inches Hand signed, titled and numbered 79/100 by Kerry James Marshall in graphite pencil on the front Published by Africa House International, Chicago Unframed On October 18, 2025, another example of this print sold at public auction for $28,000. In September, 2025, "Kerry James Marshall: The Histories" opened at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. This major exhibition was the largest presentation of Marshall's work in the United Kingdom and Europe, and featured more than 70 works by the the artist, including a large number of paintings and a selection of prints, drawings and sculptures. Highlights of the show include a new series of paintings that explore the transatlantic slave trade, along with Knowledge and Wonder, a mural commissioned in 1995 by the Chicago Public Library that is the largest painting Marshall has produced. The exhibition at the Royal Academy will then travel to the Kunsthaus Zurich and the Musee d'Art Modern in Paris. Kerry James Marshall's 2011 "Keeping the Culture" is based upon the artist's eponymous painting done the year earlier, which is featured in the Royal Academy Exhibition. In 2013, an original painting, upon which this work is based, sold at Christie's auction. Below is the Christie's Lot Essay for that painting: ..." Set in a revolutionary apartment in the cosmos, Kerry James Marshall's Keeping the Culture optimistically anticipates a future that pays homage to the past. Ushering in a new stage of the artist's output, Keeping the Culture shifts focus from the failed utopia of urban renewal and the commemoration of civil rights era heroes in favor of a more technically refined meditation on the preservation of the traditional and spiritual values that shaped a culture. Placed in an ultramodern environment, two siblings marvel at a projection of the earth--in which Marshall has aptly positioned the African continent toward the viewer-while their affectionate parents dance in the foreground. Overlooking the milky way, Marshall's space-age flat is decorated with earthly relics-wooden tribal sculptures...

Henri Matisse, Series L, Var. 13, Dessins, Themes et Variations, 1943 (after)
Located in Southampton, NY
This exquisite lithograph after Henri Matisse (1869–1954), titled Series L, Variation 13, originates from the rare 1943 folio Henri Matisse, Dessins, Themes et Variations. Published by Martin Fabiani, Editeur, Paris, and printed by Georges Duval, Paris, on February 27, 1943, this edition presents a suite of drawings that encapsulate Matisse’s lifelong pursuit of purity in draftsmanship and composition. Created under the artist’s supervision, each plate demonstrates Matisse’s mastery of contour and simplicity, transforming minimal gestures into harmonies of balance and grace that evoke both strength and serenity. Executed on velin pur fil paper, this lithograph measures 9.62 x 12.88 inches (24.44 x 32.72 cm). It is signed in the plate and unnumbered, as issued, in accordance with the authorized 1943 publication format. Produced during wartime Paris under the direction of publisher Martin Fabiani, this folio embodies Matisse’s commitment to artistic renewal through discipline, sensitivity, and elegance. It remains a landmark in 20th-century printmaking, celebrated for the lyrical clarity and modernity of its graphic vision. Henri Matisse’s 'Themes and Variations' were printed by G. Duval and the preface of Aragon, printed by Fequet et Baudier. About the Artist: Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was a French painter, draughtsman, sculptor, and printmaker whose bold use of color, fluid line, and decorative brilliance helped define modernism and Fauvism. Born in Le Cateau-Cambresis, Matisse trained at the Academie Julian and later in Paris, where his expressive palette and relaxed compositions challenged conventions of light and form. Alongside his contemporary and friendly rival Pablo Picasso, Matisse reshaped the course of 20th-century art, each artist pushing the other toward greater innovation and emotional depth. Over his career, he worked across a wide array of media—painting, cut-outs, printmaking, sculpture, and interior design—always emphasizing harmony, balance, and visual poetry. His works are in the permanent collections of leading museums globally, including the Musee d'Orsay, MoMA, the Tate, and the Centre Pompidou. The highest price ever paid for a Matisse artwork is approximately $80.75 million USD, achieved in 2018 at Christie's New York for Odalisque Couchee aux Magnolias (1923). Seascape I - large format photograph of blue tone horizon and sea
Located in San Francisco, CA
large scale photograph capturing the soothing tones of nature's calming blue hour color palette Seascape I by Frank Schott 48 x 64 inches / 122cm x 162cm signed edition of 7 30 x 40 inches / 76cm x 102cm signed edition of 25 archival fine art pigment print signed & numbered by artist on certificate label ------------------------- Frank Schott grew up in Germany and attended the prestigious Academy of Arts in Cologne, studying under Professor Arno Jansen, who was an early influence. Moving to California in 1998, Schott's work has evolved to include the epic landscapes and deserts of the American West as well as architectural, conceptual and more formal environments from both home and his travels. Influenced by a number of photographic peers and precursors such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Hiroshi Sugimoto, William Eggleston and Joel Sternfeld, Schott's images successfully blend technical, conceptual and formal rigor with a decisive sense of composition and color. Schott's images have an iconic sensibility and give us a bird's eye view onto humanity and its constructs. The specific is edged towards the abstract, often revealing the compelling and disjunctive moment where nature meets man. Frank Schott was born in Cologne, Germany in 1962. He currently lives and works in San Francisco. _________________________ Edition EKTAlux publishes an evolving curated selection of collectable large-scale photography in strictly limited editions, working closely with each artist to guarantee state-of-the-art museum level print and framing quality. Red Centered Purple Circle
Located in New York, NY
ABOUT THIS PIECE: Color is the foundation of my work. My circles start as a mood or idea that eventually evolves into a colored circle. I am curious how different colours interact when they're placed next to each other. I experiment with intensity of colours and the different sensations colours evoke. Why a Circle? When I explore my fascination with this shape I discover that the circle represents all that is familiar and comforting. It is the shape of the rising sun, of a mother's nipple, of the iris of the eye, and of a full moon. I use the latest digital technology as a medium to create my circles. ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Ruth Adler is a Canadian artist whose mediums include paintings, works on paper, animated films and textiles. She is inspired by the city of Tel Aviv, music (she plays the harmonica) and her personal memories. Jim Kempner Fine Art...
