In fact, it wouldn’t be so far-fetched to say that it almost single-handedly carved out the fad of toy collecting in modern times, treading the very fine line between toy and art. Since its inception, BE@RBRICKs have become one of the most recognizable characters in the world, and some of the most sought after. Jackson Pollock was one of the most famous Post-War American artists. A pioneer of Abstract Expressionism, Pollock’s drip paintings ushered in a new era of non-representational art. “It doesn't make much difference how the paint is put on as long as something has been said,” he once remarked. “Technique is just a means of arriving at a statement.” Born Paul Jackson Pollock on January 28, 1912 in Cody, WY, he studied painting at the Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles during the late 1920s, where he befriended Philip Guston. In the fall of 1930, Pollock moved to New York where he studied under the Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League. Joining the WPA in 1937, Pollock painted murals around the country in a style reminiscent both of Benton and the Mexican muralist José Clemente Orozco. After the WPA program ended, Pollock took on a number of odd jobs and began producing Surrealist works related to those of Joan Miró. An early champion of his work, Peggy Guggenheim hosted Pollock’s first solo show at her gallery Art of This Century in 1943. The paintings that emerged from his Long Island studio during the late 1940s came to exemplify his entire career. Works such as Blue Poles (1952), generated enormous media attention, and turned Pollock into a celebrity beyond the scope of the art world. At the age of 44, his celebrated career was cut short when the artist died in a car accident involving his mistress Ruth Kligman, on August 11, 1956 in East Hampton, NY. From: Derrière le miroir Published Paris c. 1971. Printed in France. Derrière le miroir: In October 1945 the French art dealer Aimé Maeght opens his art gallery at 13 Rue de Téhéran in Paris. His beginning coincides with the end of Second World War and the return of a number of exiled artists back to France. The publication was created in October 1946 (n°1) and published without interruption until 1982 (n°253). Its original articles and illustrations (mainly original color lithographs by the gallery artists) who were famous at the time. The lithographic publication covered only the artists exhibited by Maeght gallery either through personal or group exhibitions. Among them were, Pierre Alechinsky, Francis Bacon, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Eduardo Chillida, Alberto Giacometti, Vassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Saul Steinberg and Antoni Tapies. Alexander Calder was an American artist best known for his invention of the kinetic sculptures known as mobiles. Calder also produced a variety of two-dimensional artworks including lithographs, paintings, and tapestries as seen in his Butterfly (1970). “My whole theory about art is the disparity that exists between form, masses, and movement,” the artist once said. Born on August 22, 1898 in Lawnton, PA, Calder turned to art in the 1920s, studying drawing and painting under George Luks and Boardman Robinson at the Art Students League in New York. Calder moved to Paris to continue his studies in 1926, where he was introduced to the European avant-garde through performances of his Cirque Calder (1926–1931). “I was very fond of the spatial relations,” he said of his interest in the circus. “The whole thing of the—the vast space—I’ve always loved it.” With these performances, along with his wire sculptures, Calder attracted the attention of such notable figures as Marcel Duchamp, Jean Arp, and Fernand Léger. Notably, it was his friend Duchamp that coined the term mobile—a pun in French meaning both “motion” and “motive”—during a visit to Calder’s Paris studio in 1931. His earliest mobiles moved by motors, but Calder soon abandoned these mechanics and designed pieces that moved by air currents or human interaction. Over the course of seven decades, along with his mobiles, he also produced paintings, monumental outdoor sculptures, works on paper, domestic objects, and jewelry. The artist lived in both Roxbury, CT, and Saché, France, before his death on November 11, 1976 in New York, NY. Today, his works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Tate Gallery in London. He dedicated himself to painting from a very young age performing his first exhibitions, at the Galería Castilla de Valladolid and at the Galería Macarrón in Madrid. His work evolved from figuration to informalism, to the abstracción "symbolic and "postmodern," a "symbolic." In 1967, at the age of 22, Gabarrón exhibited at the Leob Gallery in New York and the Arts Perspective Gallery in Paris. His work has been marked by his life experience, humanism and his nomadic personality, which give him a unique, very personal style. A creation in continuous experimentation and evolution with strokes from its multiple rooms and exhibitions in different parts of the world. He currently resides between Bueu, on the Ria de Pontevedra and Valladolid, although he continues to be connected to his place of origin, the city of Mula. He received his first artistic training in Valladolid before continuing his career in France, Italy and the United States. Gabarrón's work is focused on his interest in humanism, for people's lives in harmony with their natural environment, for their peaceful coexistence and the development of human values. This conspicuous bird had various names including "water turkey" and "Bec à Lancette". The Anhinga, sometimes called snakebird, darter, American darter, or water turkey, is a water bird of the warmer parts of the Americas. The word anhinga comes from a'ñinga in the Brazilian Tupi language and means "devil bird" or "snake bird". To make 'The Birds of America' more affordable and widely available, in 1839 John James Audubon began the first octavo edition, a smaller version of the folio which was printed and hand-colored by J. T. Bowen in Philadelphia. Employing a new invention, the camera lucida, the images were reduced in size, rendered in intermediate drawings by John James Audubon and his son John Woodhouse, and then drawn onto lithographic stones.
