This artwork titled "Kreuzenstein Courrtyard, Austria" c. 1960 is a color etching on wove paper by noted Austrian artist Robert Kasimir, 1914-2002. It is hand signed in pencil by the artist at the lower center. The image (plate mark) size is 15.75 x 17.35 inches, framed size is 25.25 x 26 inches. Custom framed in a wooden antique silver frame, with decorated matting. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright, the frame has minor restorations, practically invisible. About the artist. Born in Vienna in 1914, Robert Kasimir began drawing at age 4, taught by his grandfather Alois. He made his first etching at age 5. He graduated from Vienna schools and attended the Technological College before switching to the Academy for Graphic Art, where he studied under Professor Hans Frank, a painter and graphic artist. Robert inherited the talent of his famous parents. His technique and subject matter are quite similar to those of his father. He signed his early etchings with the pseudonym "F.O. Robert" until he became established as a successful artist in his own right. Only then did he begin signing his etchings with his own name. In 1936 he came to the United States for a year of study at the Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia. During that year he made drawings for his American etchings, including the Capitol in Washington, Yale University, Broad Street, New York, and the University of California in Berkeley. He completed the actual etchings after his return to Vienna. In 1938 he was drafted into the army. He was sent to several fronts (Belgium, Holland, France, Russia) as a war reporter. He did many drawings during the war. In 1945 he returned to Vienna. For the next several years industrial commissions comprised most of his work, though he did several of his Viennese and Austrian scenes such as the Vienna Opera House...

This is a 17th century hand-colored map entitled "Insula Gaditana Isla de Cadiz" from Johannes (Joan) Blaeu's Atlas Maior, published in Amsterdam in 1662. The map provides an excellent plan of Cadiz Island on the southwest coast of Spain, with its harbor, fortifications, agricultural fields and several surrounding salt processing areas. Numerous sailing ships of various sizes are included in and around the harbor and bay, including five large sailing ships, as well as twenty-four smaller ships. There is a small compass rose overlying the bay. The bridge to the mainland from the island is shown on the right. There is an extremely ornate and colorful title cartouche in the lower left, with its mythological figures reminiscent of Raphael’s Galatea fresco at the Villa Farnesina in Rome. The vibrant colors are vividly preserved. The master colorist tried to emulate a painting by using various tones to create a three-dimensional effect.
 Blaeu's name is present in the plate in the lower right. Blaeu stated in his description of Cadiz: “The main wealth of the islanders consists of salt, which they harvest, and
 the tuna fisheries.” 
 This 17th century hand-colored map is framed in an ornate, partially textured bronze-colored wood frame and glazed with UV protected conservation glass. There is a vertical center fold, as issued. There is a faint crease in the lower right and faint color offset on the left from the right side of the map, resulting from having been in an atlas for hundreds of years. Small foci of paint are present in the upper portion of the left margin and in the left corner margin. The map is otherwise in very good condition. Due in large part to their powerful trade empire, the Dutch became known for cartography in the seventeenth century. This period is considered the Golden Age of Dutch cartography. Their publishing houses produced the highest quality work in Europe, particularly those maps and charts of foreign lands, and Dutch map-making set the bar for cartographic accuracy and artistry into the early-eighteenth century. Some of the most well-known cartographers worked in Amsterdam during this period. Perhaps the most famous of these was the Blaeu family. Willem Janszoon Blaeu, set up shop in Amsterdam. His son, Johannes (Joan), succeeded him upon his death in 1638, continuing in his father’s position as Hydrographer to the Dutch East India Company and selling maps to the public. In order to work you must already be working. —Richard Serra One of the most significant artists of his generation, he has produced large-scale, site-specific sculptures for architectural, urban, and landscape settings spanning the globe, from Iceland to New Zealand. Born in 1938 in San Francisco, Richard Serra lives and works in New York and on the North Fork of Long Island. Serra attended the University of California, Berkeley before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara graduating with a BA in English literature; he then studied painting at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut completing both a BFA and MFA. He began showing with Leo Castelli in 1968, and his first solo exhibition in New York was held at the Leo Castelli Warehouse the following year. His first solo museum exhibition was held at the Pasadena Art Museum, California, in 1970. Serra’s sculptures and drawings have been celebrated with two retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, twenty years apart: Richard Serra/Sculpture (1986) and Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years (2007). Three years later the large-scale, site-specific sculpture 7 was permanently installed opposite the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. A major traveling retrospective dedicated to Serra’s drawings was presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Menil Collection, Houston (the organizing venue), from 2011 to 2012. In 2014 the Qatar Museums Authority presented a two-venue retrospective survey of Serra’s work, and East-West/West-East (2014) was permanently installed in the Brouq Nature Reserve, Zekreet, Qatar. In 2017 the Museum Wiesbaden, Germany, presented Richard Serra: Props, Films, Early Works; an overview of Serra’s work in film and video was shown at the Kunstmuseum Basel; and recent drawings were featured at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Serra has participated in numerous major international exhibitions, including Documenta (1972, 1977, 1982, and 1987), and the Biennale di Venezia (1980, 1984, 2001, and 2013), and his work has been included in many Whitney Annuals and Biennials (1968, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1995, and 2006). It is hand signed, titled dated and inscribed artist proof in pencil by the artist. The image (plate mark) is 17.5 x 17.5 inches, framed size is 28.5 x 24.75 inches. It is custom framed in a mahogany frame. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Ron Pokrasso has been an exhibiting artist, printmaker and educator for more than 40 years. He received his MFA degree from Pratt Institute in 1975 and has had over 50 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 175 group shows. His work is in public, private, and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and abroad and is represented by several galleries nationwide as well as being featured in numerous books. For 11 years Pokrasso owned and directed Graphics Workshop (gifted to The College of Santa Fe in 1993). He is an originator of the printmaking event “Monothon” and has been an ardent supporter of arts programs for youth. His teaching experience includes universities, museums, public schools and private workshops, as well as Artist Residencies in the U.S., Scotland, Ireland and Italy. In 2000 Ron Pokrasso received the Mayor’s Recognition Award For Visual Arts citing his artistic and educational contribution to the city of Santa Fe. Currently Ron Pokrasso operates the Galisteo Street Studio in Santa Fe, NM offering workshops and assisted sessions for artists in addition to creating and exhibiting his artworks. This artwork titled ""Mer Pacifique (Pacific Ocean)" 1979 is an original color etching with aquatint on Arches paper by French artist Jean Solombre, 1948-2005. It is hand signed, dated, titled and numbered 125/125 in pencil by the artist. The image (plate mark) size is 17 x 17 inches, framed size is 31.75 x 25 inches. Framed in a mahogany style wood frame, with off white matting. It is in excellent condition, the frame has very small minor restorations, practically invisible. About the artist: Jean Solombre was born in Paris France in 1948. Solombre is an internationally respected painter, engraver, and writer. Tapestries created from images of Solombre paintings are woven at the atelier Aubsson, in France. The first Solombre fiber art created at Aubsson, was produced in 1979. Solombre, among the finest artists in France, was first acclaimed as printmaker, best known for his handsome richly textured and technically exquisite aquatint engravings which he presented with descriptive original poetry. Solombre's work has been shown in premiere art exhibitions Since 1970 including: The Great and Young of Today, at the Museum of Grand Palais, Paris; The Print Biennial at the Museum Galleria, Paris; and The International Art Fair in Paris, Basel, Dusseldorf, Washington, and New York. Solombre's printmaking intaglio technique masterfully combines the techniques of acquatint and engraving. These combination works, watercolor paintings, and oil paintings on canvas have been shown in prestigious solo exhibitions at: Jean-Marie Cupillard's la Bijougalerie in Grenoble, La Torte Gallery, Paris; Lahumiere, Paris; L'Empreinte Gallery, Strasbourg; Gallery Oliveier, Lille; Hohenloher Foundation, Langenburg West Germany; Gallery L'Angle Aigu, Bruxelles, Belgium; Gallery 410, New York USA; Frances Aronson...
