Handsome 19th century Charles X period wall console handcrafted of walnut in Lyon for the famous French parfumerie Vachon-Bavoux & Cie, circa 1820. A rectangular plank top sits above three drawers with the center drawer having the bronze plate stamped VACHON-BAVOUX & Cie LYON. Supported by scrolling, fluted columnar supports. The graceful curves and simplicity of this console allow it to work with traditional and modern decors. Charles X, also known as the comte d'Artois (Count of Artois), took the throne after the fall of Napoleon. Brother of Louis XVI and Louis XVIII, he was the last of the French rulers from the senior branch of the House of Bourbon. During his reign, French furniture transitioned from overly ornate, bold and geometric to more comfortable and simple, while still maintaining sophistication, as evidenced by this console table. He was succeeded by Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans...

An early 20th century barro negro or black clay botijo, hand made and signed ROCA CAUS VERDU on the handle, by the famed pottery company, Roca Caus, in the village of Verdú in the Catalan region of Spain, circa 1900. This beautiful utilitarian pot, with its wide belly, top handle, and one mouth where it's filled and one mouth called a pitón or pitorro to drink from, is a traditional porous clay Spanish vessel originally designed to contain water. The botijo is a typical element of Spanish culture and can be found in nearly every rural town and varies in shape, color, and material depending on the area. The Verdú jugs are known for their ability to keep water cool and very fresh because of their porosity. The expression "they always cry" is well known. Today, this antique clay jug can be used as a vase, stand alone conversation piece, or grouped with other pieces of blackware on a table, shelf or kitchen counter. Beautifully decorative, it will be a wonderful addition to any collection. Each piece is a unique work of art, and its dusky matte patina only adds to its overall character and charm. Scraped to the original off white paint, this antique sofa bench is typical of the Swedish desire for light and soft colors that helped bring light to rooms during the very dark winters in Scandanavia. Showcasing the stylistic characteristics of the Gustavian era, it features carved flat spindles or slats topped with petite carved finials adorning the back and arm supports and a long rectangular upholstered lift seat that opens to reveal a convenient storage compartment.
