1950s Chinese Chair by Hans Wegner for Fritz Hansen

About the Item

The China Chair is the only pure wooden chair in Fritz Hansen's collection. It was inspired by the design of the "Quan Yi" chair from 18th century China and has been in production since 1943. This expressive and sculptural chair is not bound by trends and embodies the designer's lifelong passion for exploring the characteristics and possibilities of wood. This chair, which interprets ancient Chinese design in a modern way, showcases Wegner's talent and expressive ability as a woodworker, as well as his creativity in creating sculptural, functional pieces. It is an important work that became the origin of later Nordic furniture masterpieces such as the "Y Chair" and "The Chair". The details of the chair, such as its curved lines following the spine and wider armrests, are carefully crafted for optimal stability and comfort, even when seated deeply. As a result, it is ideal for both desk work and relaxation time.
