About the Item
Distinctive Chinese export four-panel coromandel screen depicting a walled pavilion with figures engaged in leisurely activities. The scene appears to be from the 18th century Qing dynasty novel by Cao Xuegin, the dream of the red chamber the view of the figures in a garden at Daguanyuan. The incised wood panels are embellished with muted color pigments and thick black lacquer backgrounds. The panels are supported by square legs ending with patinated brass-clad feet. The back of the screen depicts a stark floral garden with rocks. The screen is in well preserved good condition with a desirable aged patina on the finish. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
