Chinese Jade Jadeite / Nephrite Pendant finely hand carved dragon, 19th C Qing
About the Item
This is a very good Chinese Jade, Jadeite / Nephrite stone pendant that we date to the early 19th Century, Qing period.
The jade has various colours within the stone, mainly a very pale dove grey with a soft light turquoise blue-green (more obviously light turquoise near the hanging hole) , then with a darker ochre /dark grey small area at the base.
This Pendant is very well hand carved on both sides with the principal carving of a Dragon chasing a pearl, with the carving arranged such that the best use is made of the natural colours within the stone, the pearl being carved within the prominent darkest section of the turquoise green. The reverse shows a bird perched in a tree among flowers with bamboo at the sides.
Their is a small hanging hole near the top where a light cord or chain could be attached.
The stone is smooth, cold and translucent with a waxy lustre.
