This is a refined lacquered and shaped wooden box, with polychrome Chinese figures and fine floral decoration on green and light blue background. The curved shape of the box, on the front, on the sides and of the feet, the rich carving, are the result of the high level craftemanships of the Venetian master cabinetery. This magnificent piece hails from the Mid-18th Century in Venezia and masterfully shows the lacquered Venetian style. Its carefully considered proportions, refined carvings, magnificent color of the lacquer, and premium materials culminate in this wooden box that shows sophistication and grace. This is a little jewel, a case to contain jewels. One of the distinctive characteristics of Venetian Baroque and Rococo furniture is the skilful use of lacquers. Lacquer is a natural resin that was very rare in the past, imported from the East and used to create smooth and colored surfaces on furniture, ready to be finely decorated with refined floral designs or exotic animals. Venetian artisans became masters in lacquer processing which required time and patience because it was made with many steps. The Venetian style deeply influenced furniture design throughout Europe, but none reached the Venetian level in terms of beauty. The skillful use of lacquer and carvings defined Venice's unique style during the Rococo period, its Golden Age. The iron little key is not working. Inside are visible some scribbles. 17th Century Italian church vase decorated with fossil agate coral, red phantom quartz crystals, and chalcedony rosettes on polished agate base. This fragment is from a church in Florence. It was found and saved from the historic flooding of the Arno River in 1966. Fossil agate coral is mounted on top of the artifact. Fossil agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. It is adorned with coordinating red phantom crystals and chalcedony rosettes that resemble the color and texture of the piece. The piece has been naturally distressed from the flood. It has been preserved and transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian fragment is originally 17th century. A very fine and palatial French 19th-20th century allegorical figural cast-iron group torchere - sculpture - fountain - representing spring and the harvest, probably cast by Le Fonderies d'Art du Val d'Osne. The charming four-putti sculpture with a front standing putto holding a pole amongst wheat stalks, another putto kneeling and collecting wheat, a third one wearing a hat and picking flowers for a wreath and the fourth kneeling putto holding a bird's nest, all below an elongated classical stem with a glass globe (Electrified), circa: Paris, 1900. Overall height: 84 inches (213.4 cm). Width: 29 1/2 inches (74.9 cm). Circular base diameter: 24 inches (61 inches). Cast-iron had been in production during the 18th century but its inferior status to the more fashionable and delicate wrought-iron had generally confined its use to architectural work. By the early 19th century, however, rapid developments of the Industrial Revolution combined with the simultaneous burgeoning of a new middle class provided the impetus for a dramatic expansion in its application and in a short space of time a proliferation of iron foundries across Europe and America thrived on the production of everything from inkstands to railway stations. The use of cast-iron for garden ornament became particularly widespread at this time, as the possibilities for its mass-production at a fraction of the cost of bronze made it the material of choice for outdoor statuary...
