This particular style of tea caddy based on a naturalistic interpretation of prunus mume tree trunk takes its inspiration directly from Yixing unglazed stoneware [aka zisha] produced in Jiangsu Province. The Yixing potters began specialising in making teapots during the Ming dynasty as a direct result of the then new innovation of making tea from rolled leaves rather than the finely ground powdered tea that preceded it. The manufacturing tag is still on the underside of the trunk and reads "Alexvale Furniture, Inc/ Philippines// item number///date. The featured stone specimens have been placed closely together and their sizes range from about 1" x 3" to 2"x 5" of different sizes. Exceptionally fine and richly adorned, this beautiful piece is a large, ebonized wooden casket or coffer, mounted with extensive ormolu decorations, and inlaid on front and back with Florentine pietra dura hardstone panels.
It was made in English in the early 19th century during the regency period, using a host of stylistic influences, and amalgamating various outstanding decorative techniques. The front and reverse are set with hardstone panels, depicting flowers, fruits and insects in the corners. A fantastic and rather unusual wrought-iron wine storage rack styled as a domed chest, it features wide shaped straps welded to curved and squared bar with curled iron elements throughout. The front of the chest retains an early lock and key, opening and dropping down on hanging chains to give access to the 28 bottles of wine that can be stored inside. It retains a wonderful early surface with chaotic oxidization and the effects of rust throughout the overall green and blue-ish patina. Circa the late 19th to early 20th century.

This exceptional antique Austrian sterling silver gilt and enamel compact mirror has a circular rounded form.
The surface of the rounded body is embellished with vibrant turquoise blue guilloche enamel, which reflects undulating concentric ring designs emanating from the centre of the underside.
The upper rim of the body is encompassed with an impressive silver gilt chased leaf decorated border.
This exceptional Austrian box is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover, featuring further silver gilt ornamentation to the rim and incorporating a rounded thumbpiece to the anterior surface.
The cover is ornamented with an exceptional and collectable enamel scene depicting the SS Orontes* at sea, with a dramatic sun set sky to the background; the lower portion of the scene bears the elucidating title: 'S.S. Orontes'.
This impressive compact opens to reveal the original integrated mirror and gilded interior.
The maiden voyage of the SS Orontes was a Mediterranean Cruise in June 1929, and the ship furthered its career as a passenger ship operating between England and Australia. During World War II the ship became a troopship, until the end of the war where it was utilised to return Prisoners of War from the Australian camps and back to Europe. The Orontes was refitted in the late 1940s to be used as a single class passenger ship once more, until an unfortunate collision with the SS Empire, where the ship was scrapped in 1962.
