About the Item

Alaska is an original decorative silver object realized and created by Ettore Sottsass in the 1980s. Original silver candlestick realized in 1981. Made in Italy. The label of authenticity is impressed on the base of the work. Excellent conditions. Beautiful design object realized in silver with a hammered decoration; a beautiful contemporary design object created and realized in Italy. The candlestick presents a geometrical shaped handles and a rounded shape mouth. "Controdesign is a way of being aware that the mechanism as it works is not the ideal one". This work has been realized by Ettore Sottsass (Innsbruck, 1917 - Milan, 2007) was an Italian architect, designer and photographer. Sottsass is the artist who first expressed, through his production of design objects, the emerging ideas of 'Controdesign' or Radical Design, or social criticism expressed through objects characterized by a strong experimentalism of materials, techniques and forms, in direct opposition to the Rationalist style and the common taste of the time. The movement was born in the second half of the 1960s and continues, in its original connotations, until the early 1970s. Subsequently, the movement evolves through different variations carried out by designers and architects such as those of the Memphis group. His product conception is largely influenced by the travels made in the 1950s and 60s in which, as in all his travels, Sottsass does not participate only as a tourist but with the intention of experiencing new places and cultures and seeking a new form of language.
