French Terracotta Sculpture Nude Woman "Premiere Faute" - by LAMI - Art Nouveau
By Stanislas Lami
Located in Beuzevillette, FR
Female nude in terracotta. Signed "St. Lami" on the base. Stanislas Lami is a French sculptor. Stamp mark "Terracotta - R. D'ARLY Paris". This work inspires purity and delicacy. The sculpture represents a kneeling naked woman, the features are fine and pleasant. The work is neat and delicate. The position of the woman calls for calm and tranquility. Our terracotta proof is a reduction of Stanislas Lami's marble entitled "Première Faute" which earned him the second medal at the Salon of 1891. The work represents a young woman kneeling, her arms modestly covering her face with closed eyes. At the dawn of the 20th century, this elegant statuette was part of the symbolist movement and announced the Art Nouveau movement. This beautiful work was included in the second edition of the artist's catalog raisonné. Related literature: Grégoire de Thoury, Stanislas Lami (1858-1944), catalog raisonné of sculptures, Paris, 2014, model listed under number FA12. More widely known for his masterful literary work, Stanilas Lami is an artist as much as a scholarly amateur. Son of the sculptor Alphonse Lami, grandson of the neoclassical painter Bidauld, son-in-law of the art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer, he benefited all his life from an environment favorable to the promotion and commissioning of his written or sculpted works. While he wrote his famous dictionaries of sculptors of the French School throughout his career, over around forty years, he also exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français between 1882 and 1942. Wonderful decorative piece. Beautiful dimensions. France - Art Nouveau - 1891 Stanislas Lami, born in 1858 in Paris and died in 1944, was a French sculptor and art historian. He is the grandson of landscape painter François-Xavier Bidault and the son of sculptor Alphonse Lami. Some of his works are kept in museums, especially in Spain. In Paris, at the Musée d'Orsay, there is a marble sculpture of the Danish Dog...

Striped Fold with Inclusions I, Red & Blue Ceramic Vessel by Steven Edwards
Located in London, GB
Striped fold with inclusions I is a unique sculpture by the British artist Steven Edwards, created from colored parian porcelain. Steven Edwards is a ceramic artist whose work investigates the language of making through the materiality and physicality of clay. Fascinated by process-led making, he uses traditional techniques that provoke unanticipated outcomes, using clay as a medium that sustains the narrative of the making process. The resulting forms embody his interaction and manipulation of the clay using bespoke tools to explore the intrinsic properties of the material. His creative practice starts by purposely placing clay under stress to reveal the natural tension and movement in its surface and form. Throughout the whole making process, he pushes, pulls, compresses and slices the material to provoke a reaction. The final forms are a combination of these making scenarios, translating a theme of duality in their appearance – the contrast of visual distortion and precision, the stillness and movement in form and the surface deception between synthetic and natural. Whilst challenging and pushing his material to the limits, often using clay bodies in ways they are not designed for, Edwards purposely exploits unexpected outcomes. Creating a sense of unease, during the making his clay cracks and buckles, resulting in permanent scars that illustrate the extremes that have been asked of it. Purely aesthetic, these fissures within the surface are an important counter point to the idealised sugary-hued confectionery layered rings. Edwards has exhibited his work at premiere contemporary design and craft shows including British Ceramics...

Apple Sculpture by Per Hammarström, Sweden, 1980’s / 1990’s
Located in Stockholm, SE
Apple sculpture by Per Hammarström, Sweden, 1980’s / 1990’s. Stoneware. Signed. Per Hammarström is one of Sweden’s most highly regarded ceramicists. Per’s work doesn’t conform to the Swedish style of simplicity; instead he loves colour and texture, and exploring the multi-faceted function of ceramics. Per began his training at the Gustavsbergs Porcelain Studio in 1978, which is sadly no longer in existence. In 1984 he opened his own studio in Strängnäs, and has worked in this manner ever since. Per’s work is characterised by organic forms and his own distinctive glazes, often in bright colours and strong contrasts. His work is unique, each piece starting out as a roughly thrown form, which is worked and transformed into bowls that are characterised by their delicacy and translucency. The organic form is embodied in the textured ceramics of Per. His works are either made from stoneware or porcelain. The inspiration of much of his work is the sea, but he also draws from flora and fauna; and the changing of the seasons. The undulating colours of the sea, sky and land manifest themselves in his delicately crafted and vividly coloured ceramics. Through elaborate dining-ware and ceramic ornaments...
