Crafted circa 1880, and built in cast iron, this heavy 162 pound travel safe is decorated with studded hobnails and embellished with floral medallions on each panel. Late 19th/Early 20th c., large Japanese Meiji bronze floor urn. The principal decoration on both sides of the vase is rendered in beautiful and strong relief. One side depicts birds, possibly skylarks, in flight and on flowering cherry blossom branches. The opposite side depicts herons wading and alighting on a flowering tree. the upper and lower portions of urn are decorated with repeating arched lozenges detailed with scrolls and flora. The urn is adorned with foo dog handles, unmarked. This is an impressive and beautiful bronze urn.
In bronze-working, Meiji period craftsmen were newly empowered to attempt distinctive, innovative, and complex pieces. Makers were influenced less by the West than by China, which had had a relationship with Japan stretching back thousands of years, far further than Japan’s recent association with Western powers.

Beautiful antique pair of candleholders created with Art Nouveau patterns at the Tiffany Studios in New York city, circa 1903. They was crafted under the directory presidency of Charles T. Cook (1902-1907) during the Edwardian era (1901-1911) in solid sterling silver .925/.999 with a fluted repousse trumpet plain patterns. They are convertible and can be dismounted to be used as a single or with three candles. This extremely rare pieces are from a very small edition of only 20 pieces and was carefully crafted with beautiful and elegant Art Nouveau patterns in solid sterling silver .925/.999 with very high polished finish.
As with all Tiffany pieces, the quality and design are beyond compare. Exceptional and rare example of Tiffany's finest work.
Weight: Combined of 1796.3 grams or 57.72 troy ounces
Measurements: 12.5 by13.6 by 5.3 inches (31.75 x 34.55 x 13.46 Cm).
Hallmarks: Both are stamped at the bottom part, with the, maker's mark, the director's mark "C" Charles T. Cook, the model 4619 and pattern number and signed in full, "TIFFANY & CO. 13434 MAKERS 4619 STERLING SILVER
.925/1000 C". In addition, they are hand engraved with the maker's initials D.K and the inventory set number 02/20.

The company was grounded in 1854 by Louis Kuppenheim (1824-1889) and Heinrich Witzenmann, specialized in silver and gold and -enameled artefacts. On the World Exhibition in 1900 the firm received a gold medal for a letter opener. In that same year the company opened a branch in the Rue Richelieu 67 in Paris. In these years some designs by Hans Christiansen were executed, amongst them very delicately enameled silver cigarette cases. The enamels on the several silver and gold pieces was of very high standard, and sometimes even gems like rubies were applied. These bronze gingko leaf candlesticks inspired by the naturalistic designs of the Art Nouveau period are by Marc Bankowsky. Originally conceived for the restaurant of famed French restauranteur Pierre Gognaire, they proved popular enough that they are now offered to a wider audience. The focal point are the 2 leaves of the gingko. The top of the leaves are scored, the undersides are smooth. The candles are supported by a wonderful spiraling detail at the center of each leaf. Naturalistically cast, with the high areas polished, these candlesticks are hand signed by the artist (see image #10) as well as his cipher that is in the mold.
Currently, we have 2 pair available and the collection of 4 would make an impressive statement on a large table. Offered for less as we were able to acquire these on the secondary market, here's your chance!
