About the Item

Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi, Hollywood Collection Ceramic Bowl, Italy, ca. 1980s Dimensions: Ø 22 cm (8.66 in.) x H 18 cm (7.09 in.) A striking ceramic bowl designed by Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi Monte Lupo as part of the celebrated Hollywood Collection. Executed in a bold interplay of black and white, the piece exemplifies Sottsass’s mastery of sculptural form and color contrast—elevating a functional vessel into an architectural object. Signed : E.Sottsass and Bitossi Monte Lupo Sottsass (1917–2007), one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, is best known as the founder of the Memphis Group. His work consistently challenged conventions of industrial design, blending modernist rigor with expressive, often playful geometries. The Hollywood Collection, produced in collaboration with the historic Florentine ceramics manufacturer Bitossi, distills his postmodern sensibility into a series of striking ceramic forms. Bitossi Ceramiche, founded in 1921 in Montelupo Fiorentino near Florence, has long been synonymous with innovation in Italian ceramics. Their collaborations with masters such as Sottsass have become design icons, sought after by collectors worldwide for their bold experimentation and timeless appeal. This rare example from the Hollywood Collection showcases the perfect synthesis of Sottsass’s radical vision and Bitossi’s artisanal tradition—an essential piece for collectors of Italian design and postmodern art. The bowl will be shipped insured overseas in a custom made wooden crate. Cost of transport to the US crate included is Euro 250 if we take care of the transport which we highly recommend. Wear consistent with age and use. Colors may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings.
