George IV Wine Label Made in London by Robert Garrard, 1823
About the Item
The Roayl Goldsmith Robert Garrard. A Very Rare George IV Wine Label Made in London in 1823 by Robert Garrard.
This exceptionally fine wine label is cast and slightly rounded and modelled in the stylised escutcheon form, with a raised, crisp, border of foliate scrolls and raying Rococo shells. The face of the label is most unusually matted and pierced with the title of MADEIRA. Wine Labels by Robert Garrard are rare and this example is very well marked and is of exceptional quality, as would be expected from the worksops of the Royal Goldsmith, later to become the Crown Jeweller. Being cast, it is of a very good guage and weight and his mark displays the crown above, denoting his status.
