18th C George 11nd Tall Wine Drinking Glass Solid Stem and Long Tear Domed Foot
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very good, tall, English, mid-Georgian, hand blown, wine drinking glass, dating to the George II period of the mid-18th century, circa 1740. These 18th Century hand blown drinking glasses are uniquely individual and very collectable. This wine glass is hand blown from English lead glass. It is heavy and has a soft grey color, with some age related wear to the surface and foot rim as expected with well over 250 years of use. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm, with no two glasses being the same. The glass has a beautifully drawn round funnel (RF) bowl which continues into a thick solid stem enclosing a very decorative long tear and leading to a good domed foot having a rough snapped-off pontil mark to the underside. The "domed" foot tends to be a much rarer foot form. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration though the glass does have some scratches from use to the underside of the foot. Please see images. Dimensions: Bowl rim diameter: 2.1 inches. Foot diameter: 2.96 inches. Height: 6.82 inches. The glass has a good ring to it when tapped with a finger. We date this glass to the George II period of the 18th century, circa 1740. Similar glasses from the same period are shown in the book: Eighteenth Century English Drinking Glasses...

Three-tiered stand for sweetmeats, in the form of shells and coral, and enameled with flowers; it is rare to find these in such good condition. Probably from a large dessert service. These stands were popular in the Georgian period and were made by most of the porcelain factories. Many were modelled by a man named Tebo, who went from factory to factory creating these stands. He appears to have used real shells...

Ancient Italian Renaissance Maiolica Crespina, Faenza, 1580 Circa
Located in Milano, IT
Crespina Faenza, last quarter of the 16th century Maiolica painted in two colors, light blue and yellow, on a thick, rich layer of white enamel. It measures 2.24 in (5.7 cm) in height, 6.10 in (15.5 cm) in diameter. lb 0.55 (kg 0.25) State of conservation: mimetic restoration. The small cup has a raised central “umbone”, a perforated brim and a shaped rim. It rests on a high jutting foot. The "crespina" shape, in some inventories is cited as "tacce de frute" (fruit cups). It was particularly appreciated in the Renaissance and has variants based on the formal types and the different sizes. The decoration, made according to the dictates of the “compendiario” style, used few standardized colors: blue and yellow on a thick white and shiny enamel, deliberately chosen as the colour which was most reminiscent of silver. This choice derived from a trend in creative design of the era: the shapes used in the molds were often taken from metal objects. An idea which would last throughout the Renaissance. The work shows, in the middle of the “umbone”, a winged putto stepping forward while playing a long thin trumpet. The depiction of the putto is fully representative of the repertoire of the Faenza workshops of the sixteenth century. Some specimens with this type of decoration have been published in a volume by Carmen Ravanelli Guidotti: there appears the whole productive repertoire of this fundamental moment of transition between the taste for the “istoriato” style and the great simplification of decoration in the “compendiario” period. This style, in its simplicity, however, saw its expression in a rather varied collection of decorative subjects, including old-fashioned busts...
