About the Item

Original Rococo Meissen Group from the 18th Century. Visibly drunk Silenus, crowned with a wreath of vines, sitting on a donkey and supported by a young Bacchante walking alongside him, so that he cannot fall off, in front of the stretching donkey, a loosely dressed nymph, who is stretching up to the vine, is sitting on the ground next to a basket full of vines, handing grapes to the animal to eat, behind them, on the ground, is an unclothed putto lying on his back with a vine wreath and grapes in his hands. The group is based on an oval meadow base with gold-accented rocaille ornaments. Designed by FERDINAND ELIAS MEYER (1723 - 1785) called 'the Elder', was a German sculptor and porcelain modeler in the Rococo period. He created numerous models for the Meissen porcelain manufactory and worked closely with Kändler there, but made a name for himself above all as a master model in the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin. The model was created around 1760.
