About the Item

A Rare Pair of 19th Century Meissen Porcelain Yellow Ground Puce Watteau Scene Decorated Covered Vases, with Front and Back Cartouches. Each vase features a graceful baluster form, adorned with a vibrant yellow ground and intricate puce Watteau scenes. Each vase is decorated with charming front and back cartouches. The Watteau scenes on these vases depict idyllic pastoral settings, featuring elegantly dressed figures engaged in charming interactions. Delicate details capture moments of leisure and romance, often framed by lush landscapes and soft, flowing drapery. The scenes exude a sense of grace and whimsy, characteristic of the Rococo style, bringing a touch of 18th-century charm to the vases. The reverse side cartouches consist of flower decorations. The lids are also decorated with Watteau scenes, which is an unusual and quite rare decoration on Meissen vases. The bottoms consist of blue crossed swords mark in underglaze as well as incised marks. Germany, Circa: 1870
